The question Harvard University gave its students reads;

Africa is growing. Seven of the the ten fastest growing economies in the world are in Africa, and the continent's largest economies are becoming less dependent on extractive commodities.
The continent's rising middle class has demonstrated a taste for consumer goods and technological innovation, and Africa's population-currently more than a billion people- is booming and overwhelmingly young at a time when populations in other regions are shrinking and aging.
Nigeria, sub-saharan Africa's largest economy, epitomizes both the promise and the problems the continent faces in the 21st century. The country had failed to thrive for its first thirty years as an independent nation, despite having a developmental head start relative to countries like China and India, as well as hundreds of billions of dollars in oil revenue..
Now, after pathbreaking reforms followed by signs of retrenchment, Nigeria's new President faced both vast opportunity and grave challenges. Would the country flourish or founder in this new era? We will analyze key reforms in Nigeria's economy, significant political developments, and the choices facing the country's fast-growing private sector.

Why did Nigeria fail to thrive between 1960 and 1999, particularly relative to China and India?

How would you characterize former President Obasanjo's legacy?

Are you bullish or bearish on the next fifteen years for Nigeria? What would make you change your mind? What opportunities do you see? What are the challenges (and risks)

Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo is in the U.S. to deliver a lecture at the Harvard University, Boston, U.S. on “Africa Rising” at Harvard Business School.

Osinbajo, while at Harvard, will also engage in marathon meetings at the Ivy League school.

Harvard described the lecture as a historic moment as it will be the first time an Africa-focused course will be offered at Harvard Business School.

In extending the invitation to Osinbajo, Harvard noted that it deeply admired the immense progress that Nigeria had made under the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari.

The university specifically noted the work of the Presidential Enabling Business Environment Council, which the vice-president chairs.

The university said: “It would be the highest honour for us were you to accept our invitation as we deeply admire the immense progress that Nigeria has made during your tenure.

“Not only as the country’s Vice President, but also as Chairman of the Presidential Enabling Business Environment Council.

“By all accounts, this Council has spearheaded crucial initiatives and we very much hope that you will speak to those, as well as to Nigeria’s rise in world economic rankings and the vast range of business initiatives that are ongoing in your country.”

The vice-president is expected to, during the lecture, highlight the progress made by the present administration in improving the country’s economy and investment climate.

Osinbajo had in October 2016 delivered a lecture at the university’s ‘Nigeria in the World’ seminar also at the invitation of the university.

The vice-president spoke on: ‘Destroying Boko Haram and the Rebuilding of Nigeria’s North-East’.

While at Harvard, he will hold meeting with Margot Gill, the Harvard University Marshall and Professor Emmauel Akyeampong and the Centre for African Studies Affiliates at Centre for African Studies at the university.

He also will have lunch with the Harvard Law School Students and Faculty at the Harvard Law School.

Osinbajo will then hold meeting with Professor David Wilkins and tour the Centre on the Legal Profession and Nitin Nohira, Dean, Harvard Business School at the university.

A Kenyan man has taken his 83-year-old mother to visit the famous Harvard University in the United States. Chris Mburu posted a powerful message accompanied by photos of him and his elderly mum at the world-renowned Harvard University.

According to Mburu:

When I graduated here 24 years ago, my mother was absent from the ceremony, because it was too expensive for her to make the trip from my native village in Kenya to the United States.

So you can imagine the joy I felt last week as I brought her for her first visit to the university, at the age of 83!

Though uneducated herself, my mother has always valued education and indeed remains one of the smartest people I know.

His mum is seen wearing a ‘Harvard mom’ sweatshirt holding a souvenir from Harvard in her hand.

Mburu is a graduate of Law and is currently a lawyer with the United Nations Human Rights Agency based in Switzerland.
