The Speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Timothy Owoeye has promised to build upon the legacies of the political founding fathers in the South-West region.

DAILY POST reports that the Speaker made this known in his remarks during the special meeting with the South-West Legislative Reform Implementation Committee (SLRIC) at the House of Assembly Complex, Abere.

Hon. Owoeye, who was pioneer Chairman of the committee, appreciated the members for their zeal, noting that Houses of Assembly across the region had achieved a lot on harmonisation of standing orders.

While giving kudos to all the South/West governors for their support despite differences of political ideas, he charged members to continue to build upon the legacies of the political founding fathers in the region.

“I want all of us to build upon our political founding fathers’ legacies in the South-west in order to remain on top.

“We have achieved a lot on harmonisation of standing rules and orders, community engagement and security which gave birth to Amotekun”, he added.

He advised them to be proactive in their dealings in respect of the Houses of Assembly across the region and noted that the South-West had triumphed beyond partisan politics during the establishment of the security network in the region.

Responding, the Chairman of the South-West Legislative Reform Implementation Committee and Majority Leader of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Hon. Shina Agunbiade described the legislature as a signpost of democracy in a democratic setting.

He said the aim of the committee was to ensure compliance and evaluation of the South-West Houses of Assembly.

According to him, “We want to see how the Houses of Assembly across the region will comply with the rules and standing orders.

“We are also here to implement the South-West business, rules and agenda”.

Agunbiade observed that there was a need to look into how the provisions in the rules and standing orders can be made uniform, while plans were ongoing to have a portal for all legislators in the region.

He solicited for cooperation among Houses of Assembly members to allow for the workability of financial autonomy.
