Good morning! Here is today’s summary from Nigerian Newspapers:

1. The World Trade Organization (WTO) has finally appointed ex-Finance Minister, Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala as the organization’s Director-General. WTO confirmed her appointment at a special meeting of the General Council, following a selection process that included eight candidates from around the world.

2. President Muhammadu Buhari and other world leaders yesterday hailed the appointment of Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala as the Director General of the World Trade Organisation (WTO). The president congratulated Okonjo-Iweala for bringing joy and more honour to the country.

3. The impeachment against former Deputy Governor of Imo State, Jude Agbaso, was yesterday quashed by the High Court. Agbaso, who was the first Deputy Governor to former Governor, Rochas Okorocha, was impeached by the seventh Assembly in 2013 on trumped up charges of accepting Red Label Whiskey bribe from the boss of J-Bros Construction Company.

4. The Presidency, yesterday, declared that the military has been overstretched by the rising security challenges across the country. Presidential spokesperson, Garba Shehu, stated this during a national television broadcast while speaking on the increasing clashes between herders and farmers across the country.

5. The House of Representatives, yesterday, said the country is currently losing $750 annually to gas flaring. House Committee on Gas Resources Chairman, Nicholas Mutu, stated this at an investigative hearing organised by the joint Committee on Gas Resources, Environment and Climate Change.

6. Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, has disclosed that five northern governors will hold a security meeting with him in Abeokuta today (Tuesday). The governor said this on Monday while leading security chiefs and members of the State Executive Council to some areas in the state that had witnessed killings by herdsmen.

7. The owner of Victoria East Park Hotel and Suite, Igbogbo, in the Ikorodu area of Lagos State, Fredrick Ebiesuwa, and his wife, Tinuola Oyegunle, have been sentenced to 40 years’ imprisonment over a fraud of N53,713,260.

8. Iyiola Omisore, a former Deputy Governor of Osun State, yesterday defected to the All Progressives Congress, APC. Omisore defected to the APC at his polling Unit, Ward 6 in Ile-Ife, Osun State, after which, he picked his membership card.

9.Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, said on Monday that his administration would ensure that justice was served for the victims of the clash at the Shasha Market in Ibadan over the weekend. Makinde said a judicial panel would be inaugurated to investigate the crisis.

10. The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, NCDC, has confirmed 574 fresh cases of COVID-19 in 20 states and the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja. The new figure brings the total number of recorded infections in the country to 146,928.
