Governor Darius Dickson Ishaku of Taraba State has finally broken his silence on the bad state of the road leading to the site of the Mambilla Hydro Power Project.

Ishaku who expressed dismay over the deplorable condition of the road while playing host to the management and governing board of the North East Development Commission (NEDC) said, “there is no road leading to the site of the Mambilla Hydro Power Project.”

The multi-billion Naira project which was formerly signed in November 2017 by President Muhammadu Buhari administration which was billed to become Nigeria’s largest electricity producer with an installed capacity of 3.050 megawatts, as observed by DAILY POST, is gradually turning out to watershed.

Dejected that the road leading to the site can only be accessed via helicopter, his administration, as he started, will do everything humanly possible to ensure the completion of the Mararaba/Abong road.

The aforementioned road, if eventually completed, will no doubt ease the movement of heavy duty machines to the site.

The governor who passionately appealed to the senator representing Taraba central, Yusuf A.Yusuf , who incidentally was among the NEDC team that stormed the state to flag off the construction of 500 housing units, distribution of food and non-food items as well as handed over agric equipment which includes tractors, motorcycles, power tiller machines and pharmaceutical materials to governor Ishaku-led administration, urged the senator to spur the federal government to do the needful.

The governor who was of the view that hydro-power is one of the cheapest sources of power generation, felt sad that “there is no road to where the hydroelectric power is coming from” stating that “I am telling you there is no access road to the site except if you go with helicopter.”

Believing that it is not yet too late to fix the road , he said “I urge the distinguished senator to use his office to encourage the federal government to release funds so that we can continue the road construction from Abong to Kanye-Aka and from there to the project site.“

Responding, the senator assured the governor that he and his colleagues from the state that are in the two chambers of the National Assembly, said they will not cease from working round the clock to ensure that what is due to the state from the national level are not withheld.

Also on his part, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Commission, Alhaji Mohammed G. Alkali, said While 150 of housing units will be built in Jalingo, the state capital, the balance of 350 will be spread across other cities in the State.
