Good morning! Here is today’s summary from Nigerian Newspapers:

1. Two days after returning from Saudi Arabia where he attended a summit and also held prayers for Nigeria, President Muhammadu Buhari, again is heading for Glasgow, Scotland. He is to attend the 26th Conference of Parties (COP26) to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) in the country before heading for France.

2. President Muhammadu Buhari played host to Bola Tinubu, National Leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Aso Rock on Sunday. At the end of the closed door meeting, Tinubu said he was at the presidential villa to thank the president for visiting him in London where he sought medical treatment.

3. A 59-year-old chief Imam of Yangoji Central Mosque in Kwali Area Council, Abuja, Abdullahi Abubakar Gbedako and his sons, Aliyu Usman Abubakar, 22 and Ibrahim Abubakar, 11, have been kidnapped from their home. FCT police command, DSP Adeh Josephine, confirmed the development.

4. About 600 Nigerians residing in Kuwait are at the risk of being deported over failure to get their residential permit renewed. This according to some of the affected Nigerians was because their international passports are less than one year to expire and Kuwait government does not accept such for the renewal of residential permit.

5. Tragedy struck in Enagi, headquarters of Edati local government area of Niger State on Sunday when two tankers collided leaving scores of people burnt to ashes and shops razed down. One of the tankers was said to be carrying diesel while the other was loaded with petrol. According to an eyewitness, the incident happened around 1pm on Sunday.

6. Igbomoturu Community in Southern Ijaw Local Government Area of Bayelsa State weekend protested the alleged killing of a father of five by surveillance security operatives working for a multinational oil company. According to an eyewitness, two others are still reportedly missing while three persons sustained severe injuries during the attack which occurred around 9 pm on Friday.

7. The newly-elected Peoples Democratic Party’s National Chairman, Iyorchia Ayu, has challenged the All Progressives Congress to hold a national convention like the PDP has done. Ayu, a former President of the Senate, spoke after members of the new National Working Committee of the PDP were declared at the Eagle Square, Abuja, in the early hours of Sunday.

8. The Northern Elders Forum (NEF) has declared that it would back a candidate from any region for the 2023 presidential election. Spokesman of the forum, Dr. Hakeem Baba Ahmed, stated this in an interview at the sideline of the fourth Malam Maitama Sule Leadership Lecture at the University of Maiduguri, Borno State.

9. Socio–Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) has filed a lawsuit against President Buhari over his failure to probe allegations that over 880 billion of public funds are missing from 367 Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs), to ensure the prosecution of those suspected to be responsible. The suit followed allegations contained in part 2 of the 2018 annual audited report by the Office of the Auditor General of the Federation that 880,894,733,084.811 was spent by 367 MDAs without any appropriation.

10. Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, has issued a 48-hour ultimatum to the Federal Government to unearth the masterminds of the attack on the Abuja residence of Justice Mary Odili. Addressing newsmen in Abuja yesterday, Wike described the attack as an assassination attempt on the life of Mrs Odili, who is a Justice of the Supreme Court.
