No fewer than 115 Nigerian Students have benefited from the 2017/2018 Bilateral Education Agreement Scholarship Programme to Russia and Algeria.
Malam Adamu Adamu, Minister of Education, during an Orientation Programme held for the scholars in Abuja on Wednesday, said 94 scholars will be going to Russia while 21 would be going to Algeria.
Adamu represented by Dr Lami Amodu, Director, Basic and Secondary Education, Federal Ministry of Education, urged the scholars to be or good character and abide by the laws of the countries they were going.
He also urged them to study hard so they could finish with excellent results that would make the country proud.
“I wish to inform you that for this Bilateral Education Agreement scholarship award, tuition fees, accommodation and little stipend will be provided by the donor country.
“Nigeria will provide supplementary allowance of $6,000 per annum for feeding, local transportation, maintenance, equipment and books to the beneficiaries.
“The Federal Government will also give beneficiaries warm clothing allowance of $250 per annum, health insurance of $200 annually, take-off grant of N60,000 at departure for undergraduates as well as N100,000 before departure for postgraduate students,” he said.
The minister added that passages in form of one-way tickets to the country of study and return ticket at the end of the course would be paid through the Nigeria mission.
In her welcome address, the Director/Secretary, Federal Scholarship Board, Mrs Asta Ndajiwo, advised the students to study hard in order to come out with excellent results.
Ndajiwo urged the scholars to contact the Association of Nigerian Students and the embassies in both countries of study if they had any complaints.
Mainz 05 defender, Leon Balogun has said it is an honour to wear the captain armband for the Super Eagles of Nigeria.
Balogun was Super Eagles captain in their final World Cup 2018 qualifiers against Algeria in Constantine on Friday.
The German-born defender wore the captain armband in the absence of regular captain, John Obi Mikel and his deputies Ogenyi Onazi and Elderson Echiejile as Nigeria ended their World Cup 2018 Qualifiers campaign with a 1-1 draw against Algeria in Constantine.
The 29 year old who made his international debut for the Super Eagles in 2014, praised the night’s goal scorer John Ogu and Ola Aina who made his full debut for Nigeria in the game.
He wrote on twitter,

Zambia overcame conceding a goal and going one man inside a minute, to defeat Algeria 3-1 in a 2018 World Cup qualifier in Lusaka on Saturday. The hosts raced into a two-goal lead, thanks to Brian Mwila’s brace at the 60,000-seat National Heroes Stadium.
But Yacine Brahimi pulled one back for Algeria in the 55th minute. 60 seconds later, Fashion Sakala was red-carded after picking up a second yellow.
The North Africans could however not take advantage of their numerical superiority and Enock Mwepu sealed the result for Zambia with an 89th-minute effort.
It is their first victory in the qualifying series and takes them up to second place in Group B with four points, five behind leaders the Super Eagles of Nigeria.
Nigeria thrashed African champions Cameroon 4-0 in Uyo on Friday.
