Below is What you Need to Know
First of all, you have to know what category of visa you are applying for. The reason being, every category has different requirements, some are subject to less scrutiny than others, so it is critical that you know what the purpose of your trip is and model your application towards that.
You also need to know China issues visas that allow single, double or multiple entries; the last two allowing you to exit from the Chinese mainland and re-enter using the same visa as long as it is valid.
A. Visa Fees
These fees depend more on the entries than on the visa type
Single Entry: N14,000
Double Entry (6 months): N21,000
Multiple Entry (6 months): N28,000
Multiple Entry (1 year): N42,000
B. Basic Documents Required
- A valid passport with at least 6 months left before it expires, blank visa pages and a photocopy of your passport’s data page.
- Completed visa application form with a recently taken colour passport photo (bare-head, full face) against a light background attached
- Proof of legal stay or residence status (applicable to those not applying for the visa in their country of citizenship). If you are not applying for the visa in the country of your citizenship, you must provide the original and photocopy of your valid certificates or visa of stay, residence, employment or student status, or other valid certificates of legal staying provided by the relevant authorities of the country where you are currently staying.
- If you have obtained Chinese visas before and want to apply for a Chinese visa with a renewed passport that does not contain any Chinese visa, you should present the photocopy of your old passport’s data page, as well as the page that contain your previous Chinese visa. (If your name on the current passport differs from that on the previous one, you must provide an official document of name change.)

C. Supporting Documents
Business Visa (M-Visa)
To apply for a Business visa, you need an invitation letter issued by the relevant entity. The invitation letter should contain:
- Information on the applicant (full name, gender, date of birth, etc.)
- Information on the planned visit (the purpose of visit, arrival and departure dates, place(s) to be visited, relations between the applicant and the inviting entity, financial source for expenditures)
- Information on the inviting entity (name, contact telephone number, address, official stamp, a signature of the legal representative)
Student Visa
There are 2 types of student visa (X1 and x2)
X1 Visa (Valid for more than 180 days)
- Original and photocopy of the Admission Letter issued by a school or other entities in China.
- Original and photocopy of “Visa Application for Study in China” (Form JW201 or Form JW202).
If you are issued an X1 visa, you need to apply to the exit/entry administrations of public security organs under local people’s governments at or above the county level in the proposed places of residence for foreigners’ residence permits not later than 30 days after your entry in to China
X2 Visa (valid for over 180 days)
- Original and photocopy of Admission Notice issued by a school or other entities in China.
Work Visa (Z-Visa)
To apply for a work visa to China, you will need one of the following documents:
- Foreigners Employment Permit of the People’s Republic of China issued by Chinese government authorities for Human Resources and Social Security, as well as Invitation Letter of Duly Authorized Entity or Confirmation Letter of Invitation issued by relevant Chinese entities.
- Permit for Foreign Experts Working in China issued by the State Bureau of Foreign Experts as well as Invitation Letter of Duly Authorized Entity or Confirmation Letter of Invitation issued by relevant Chinese entities.
- Registration Certificate of Resident Representative Offices of enterprises of foreign countries(regions) issued by Chinese authorities of industrial and commercial administration, as well as Invitation Letter of Duly Authorized Entity or Confirmation Letter of Invitation issued by relevant Chinese entities as well as Invitation Letter of Duly Authorized Entity or Confirmation Letter of Invitation issued by relevant Chinese entities.
- An approval document for commercial performances issued by the Chinese government authorities for cultural affairs or Invitation Letter of Duly Authorized Entity or Confirmation Letter of Invitation issued by relevant Foreign Affairs Office of provincial governments of China.
- Letter of Invitation to Foreigners for Offshore Petroleum Operations in China issued by China National Offshore Oil Corporation;

Visiting Visa (F-Visa)
To apply for a visiting visa, you need an invitation letter issued by a relevant unit in China. The invitation should contain:

- Information on the planned visit (purpose of visit, arrival and departure dates, place(s) to be visited, relations between the you and the entity or individual that invited you and financial source for expenditures)
- Information on the individual/entity that invited you (name, contact telephone number, address, official stamp, signature of the legal representative)
Tourist Visa (L-Visa)
Documents showing the itinerary including air ticket booking record (round trip) and proof of a hotel reservation etc. or an invitation letter issued by a relevant entity in China. The invitation letter should contain:
- Information on the applicant (full name, gender, date of birth, etc.)
- Information on the planned visit (arrival and departure dates, place(s) to be visited etc)
- Information on the inviting entity (name, contact telephone number, address, official stamp, signature of the legal representative)
- Information on the visit (purpose of visit, arrival and departure dates, place(s) to be visited, relations between the applicant and the inviting individual, financial source for expenditures etc)
- Information on the inviting individual (name, contact telephone number, address, signature etc)
- A photocopy of the inviting individual’s passport and residence permit (if the person that invited you is a foreigner who stays or lives in China for work or studies)
- Photocopy of certification (marriage certificate, birth certificate or notarized certification of kinship) showing the relationship of family members between the applicant and the inviting individual.
For private affairs, documentation identifying the nature of the private affairs should be provided as required by the consular officer.
Permanent Resident Visa (D-Visa)
To apply for a permanent resident visa in China you would need to submit the original and photocopy of the Confirmation Form for permanent residence status issued by the Ministry of Public Security of China.
Now that you understand all the documentation required, it’s time to book an appointment. Be sure to only use original documentation. There is also the issue of legalization; documents issued in Nigeria and to be used in China must be notarized and legalized by the competent authorities in Nigeria and then be legalized by the Chinese Embassy or Consulate.

In the near pitch-dark, you can hear them before you see them – millions of cockroaches scuttling and fluttering across stacks of wooden boards as they devour food scraps by the ton in a novel form of urban waste disposal.
The air is warm and humid – just as cockroaches like it – to ensure the colonies keep their health and voracious appetites.
Expanding Chinese cities are generating more food waste than they can accommodate in landfills and cockroaches could be a way to get rid of hills of food scraps, providing nutritious food for livestock when the bugs eventually die and, some say, cures for stomach illness and beauty treatments.
On the outskirts of Jinan, capital of eastern Shandong province, a billion cockroaches are being fed with 50 tons of kitchen waste a day – the equivalent in weight to seven adult elephants.
The waste arrives before daybreak at the plant run by Shandong Qiaobin Agricultural Technology Co, where it is fed through pipes to cockroaches in their cells.
Shandong Qiaobin plans to set up three more such plants next year, aiming to process a third of the kitchen waste produced by Jinan, home to about seven million people.
A nationwide ban on using food waste as pig feed due to African swine fever outbreaks is also spurring the growth of the cockroach industry.
“Cockroaches are a bio-technological pathway for the converting and processing of kitchen waste,” said Liu Yusheng, president of Shandong Insect Industry Association.
Cockroaches are also a good source of protein for pigs and other livestock. “It’s like turning trash into resources,” said Shandong Qiaobin chairwoman Li Hongyi.
“Essence of cockroach”
In a remote village in Sichuan, Li Bingcai, 47, has similar ideas.
Li, formerly a mobile phone vendor, has invested a million yuan ($146,300) in cockroaches, which he sells to pig farms and fisheries as feed and to drug companies as medicinal ingredients.
His farm now has 3.4 million cockroaches.
“People think it’s strange that I do this kind of business,” Li said. “It has great economic value and my goal is to lead other villagers to prosperity if they follow my lead.”
His village has two farms. Li’s goal is to create 20.
Elsewhere in Sichuan, a company called Gooddoctor is rearing six billion cockroaches.
“The essence of cockroach is good for curing oral and peptic ulcers, skin wounds and even stomach cancer,” said Wen Jianguo, manager of Gooddoctor’s cockroach facility.
Researchers are also looking into using cockroach extract in beauty masks, diet pills and even hair-loss treatments.
At Gooddoctor, when cockroaches reach the end of their lifespan of about six months, they are blasted by steam, washed and dried, before being sent to a huge nutrient extraction tank.
Asked about the chance of the cockroaches escaping, Wen said that would be worthy of a disaster movie but that he has taken precautions.
“We have a moat filled with water and fish,” he said. “If the cockroaches escape, they will fall into the moat and the fish will eat them all.”
Arrangements were at an advanced stage to secure the funds from the Chinese government in the form of loans.
The minister of Power, Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola, disclosed this while briefing journalists on the progress made by his ministry to mark his three years in office.
The minister stated that work on the Mambilla Power Plant, which had suffered several setbacks for over 40 years, is set to commence from early 2019.
According to Fashola, while the Federal Executive Council (FEC) has approved the project, President Muhammadu Buhari is committed to ensuring the urgent commencement of the project, which is expected to be completed within 60 months.
On the level of development of the project, Fashola said,
“the progress is that for the first time in over 40 years the federal government has now signed an engineering and procurement contract. President Buhari has made that possible.
“All the companies that were fighting themselves and going to court when we came are out of court. We have a contract, a joint venture; we created that joint venture; we have a contract with them we have signed. FEC has approved the project; it is going to cost $5.72 billion,” he said.
On the choice of the Chinese company, CGCC, to handle the construction of the project, Fashola stated that apart from getting funding from the Chinese, the company in question built China’s Gorges Dam which, he said, is similar to the Mambilla power plant.
“They have the technology; they have done it before; no need to reinvent the wheel. We will take a loan; we are now trying to negotiate the final tranche of the loan,” he said.
On how the government is pursuing the project execution, the minister said, “The Nigerian government is supposed to provide 15 percent of the total cost of the project as its counterpart funding.
On the economic benefits the project will bring to the country while it is under construction, Fashola said the ministry has received over 116 expressions of interest from indigenous companies that are ready to provide various services.
He said,
“They are not involved in construction; they are just trying to position themselves to provide logistics for the construction.
“They will provide financial services such as banking services – because the money has to move through banks, insurance for goods, freight for goods, transport logistics and security.
“We are drawing up guidelines for the procurement, especially to optimize the president’s directive on Executive Order 5 for the local content and Nigerians are going to benefit from this investment. Anything Nigeria can do in this project, no foreigner will be allowed to take it.”
Earlier, the minister, in his address, listed the achievements of the power sector to include increase of power generation from 4,000 megawatts (MW) in 2015 to 7,000mw, transmission from 5,000MW to 7000MW and distribution from 2690MW to 5,222MW.
Nigeria and China are to sign an agreement on the National Information and Communication Technology Infrastructure Backbone Phase 11 (NICTIB 11) between Galaxy Backbone Limited and Huawei Technologies Limited (HUAWEI) at the cost of US $328 million facility provided by the Chinese EXIM Bank.
President Muhammadu Buhari who arrived Beijing Saturday to attend the Beijing Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) holding September 3 – 4, 2018 is expected to join his Chinese counterpart, Xi Jinping to witness the signing
The bank facility is for the development of NICTIB 11 project which is consistent with the current administration’s commitment to incorporating the development of ICT into national strategic planning under the National Economic Recovery and Growth Plan (ERGP).

President Buhari will on Sunday meet Nigerians living in China before the kick-off of FOCAC on Monday when he will join President Jinping and other African leaders for roundtable sessions which will essentially discuss the report of FOCAC since the 2015 Johannesburg Summit, including the implementation of the ‘‘ten cooperation plans’’ adopted at the last meeting.
The Summit is also expected to adopt the Beijing Declaration and the Action Plan for the development of China-Africa cooperation and fashion out new opportunities to grow Nigeria-China comprehensive strategic partnership from 2019 to 2021.
Police in the northeastern Chinese city of Changchun said on Sunday they had asked prosecutors to approve the arrest of 18 people at Changsheng Bio-technology Co Ltd, a vaccine maker at the center of a safety scandal.
China has launched sweeping spot checks on vaccine makers after Changsheng was found to have falsified data and sold ineffective vaccines for children, a case that has ignited public anger.
China’s drug regulator has accused Changsheng of fabricating production and inspection records related to a rabies vaccine regularly given to infants.
In a brief statement, Changchun city police said that their investigation had already “basically” found that criminality was involved in the company’s vaccine production.
The 18 people they have applied to arrest include its chairwoman Gao Junfang, on suspicion of producing and selling substandard drugs, police said, adding their probe was continuing.
Changsheng said last week that Gao, three senior executives and two mid-level employees had been taken in for questioning by local police.
Calls to the company seeking comment went unanswered. It is unclear if Gao has been allowed to retain legal representation. Prosecutors are unlikely to reject the arrest request.
The company has its main production base in Changchun.
China’s cabinet investigation group has found that Changsheng broke the law in manufacturing rabies vaccines, the state news agency Xinhua said on Friday.
The investigation group said the company had systematically falsified production and testing records to avoid regulatory scrutiny, according to Xinhua.
President Xi Jinping has ordered all relevant departments to investigate the scandal, which has triggered public outrage in what is the latest case of tainted medical products.
China’s large unmanned helicopter, the Xiangying-200, has completed its test flights, according to its developer.
The unmanned helicopter, developed by the Shenyang Institute of Automation under the Chinese Academy of Sciences, has a length of 8.7 meters, a height of 2.5 meters, and can carry a payload of 200 kilograms.
Its key components such as the control system, power system, and transmission system are all made in China, indicating that the country’s research and development for large unmanned helicopters continue to improve.
The Xiangying-200 is China’s first large unmanned helicopter that has tested autonomous takeoff and landing on a ship deck.
The helicopter has broad application prospects in fields such as coast guard, modern agriculture, and emergency rescue.
BMW Group and the biggest Chinese SUV brand, Great Wall Motor, announced a partnership Tuesday to produce electric MINI vehicles in China as global automakers ramp up development under pressure from Beijing.
The companies said they signed an agreement Monday during an event in Berlin attended by Chinese Premier Li Keqiang and German Chancellor Angela Merkel.
BMW and Great Wall said their venture, Spotlight Automotive Ltd., also will make electrics for the Chinese partner’s brand. Automakers are pouring billions of dollars into creating electric models for China, the biggest market for the technology.
Beijing is using access to its market as leverage to induce global automakers to help Chinese brands develop battery and other technology.
Auto brands in China are required to make electric vehicles at least 10 percent of their sales starting next year or buy credits from competitors that exceed their quotas. Later, they face pressure to raise those sales in order to satisfy fuel efficiency requirements that increase annually.
Sales of pure-electric passenger vehicles in China rose 82 percent last year to 468,000, according to an industry group, the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers. That was more than double the U.S. level of just under 200,000.
Other automakers including General Motors Co., Volkswagen AG and Nissan Motor Co. have announced similar plans with Chinese partners to produce dozens of electric models.
Great Wall, headquartered in Baoding, southwest of Beijing, sells more than 1 million SUVs a year.
“With our joint approach, we can quickly scale up production and increase efficiency,” said Klaus Frolich, a BMW board member, in a statement.
MINI’s first battery electric model is due to be produced at its main British factory in Oxford in 2019, according to BMW.
China is BMW’s biggest market. The Munich-based automaker said about 560,000 BMW brand vehicles were delivered to Chinese customers in 2017, more than its next two markets — the United States and Germany — combined.
China was MINI’s fourth-largest market in 2017, with 35,000 vehicles delivered, the company said.
The electrics venture with BMW is an important boost for Great Wall, which industry analysts warned would struggle to satisfy Beijing’s sales quotas due to its fuel-guzzling vehicle lineup and had yet to announce any significant electric plans.

US President Donald Trump on Monday urged China on Monday to maintain a secure border with North Korea, pressing Beijing ahead of his anticipated meeting with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un next month aimed at denuclearization.
“China must continue to be strong & tight on the Border of North Korea until a deal is made. The word is that recently the Border has become much more porous and more has been filtering in. I want this to happen, and North Korea to be VERY successful, but only after signing!” Trump tweeted.
He did not elaborate on the significance of the North Korea-China border issue in any deal that might be reached on denuclearization. Trump has said his meeting with Kim will take place on June 12 in Singapore.
China is North Korea’s most important trading partner and it has consistently said it is fully enforcing U.N. sanctions against the North.
Speaking in Beijing, Chinese foreign ministry spokesman Lu Kang said China had always fulfilled its international obligations, but that as friendly neighbours they, of course, had what he termed normal trading ties.
“There is absolutely no inevitable contradiction between these two,” Lu told reporters.
North Korea last week threatened to scrap the summit with Trump if Washington continued to press for unilateral denuclearization.
In response, Trump said that as far as he knew, the meeting was still on track and sought to placate Kim by saying the North Korean leader would be protected as part of any deal.
Last week, Trump told reporters at the White House that the Kim was possibly being influenced by China after two recent visits he made there.
