The Corps Marshal, Federal Road Safety Corps, (FRSC), Dr Boboye Oyeyemi has approved the promotion of 685 Marshal Inspectors and 942 Road Marshal Assistants, urging them to re-dedicate themselves to duty.
The Corps Public Education Officer, Mr Bisi Kazeem, disclosed this in a statement on Saturday in Abuja.
Kazeem said the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Mr Boss Mustapha had also approved promotion of the Zonal Commanding Officer of the Corps in Charge of Zone RS3HQ, Abubakar Ringim to the rank of the Deputy Corps Marshal (DCM).
Mustapha equally approved the promotion of 298 officers of the corps, bringing the total number of the newly promoted officers to 1,925.
The officers promoted included: 33 Chief Route Commanders, 34 Superintendent Route Commanders, 93 Route Commanders, and 137 Deputy Route Commanders.
According to Kazeem, the personnel promoted to Marshal Inspectors include: 57 Deputy Marshal Inspectors, 71 Assistant Marshal Inspectors, 54 Principal Marshal Inspectors, 234 Senior Marshal Inspectors, 207 Marshal Inspectors I, and 62 Marshal Inspectors II.
He said the Marshal Assistants promoted include: 45 Deputy Chief Road Marshal Assistants, 81 Senior Road Marshal Assistants, 146 Road Marshal Assistants I, and 670 Road Marshal Assistants II.
Oyeyemi also commended the performance of the newly promoted officers and Marshals of the Corps, and urged them to put in their best in the discharge of their duties as they assume higher responsibility in their career.
The Corps marshal urged them to be of good character as well as work hard to achieve the mandate of the Corps which was aimed at combating road accidents by 15 per cent and fatality by 25 per cent yearly.
Meanwhile, the Corps has urged road users to use its toll-free 122 line to report emergencies.

Governor Obiano meets Delta Governor Okowa, FRSC Corps Marshal, Mr Oyeyemi, discusses measures to ease traffic at Bridgehead Onitsha.
Governor Willie Obiano today met with his Delta State Counterpart, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa and the Corps Marshal, Federal Road Safety Corps, Mr Boboye Oyeyemi to discusses issues of safety and traffic decongestion during the yuletide celebrations in both states.
The Two governors and the FRSC boss met behind closed doors at the Delta State Government House, Asaba.
Also among issues discussed during the meeting was how the Delta Government can do palliative works on the bad spots around the Asaba end of the Niger Bridge to reduce the heavy gridlock usually experienced around the area during festive periods.
The Federal Road Safety Corps FRSC) has released the guidelines for the proposed psychiatric examination of traffic lawbreakers in the country.
Scheduled to begin nationwide on July 1, the test will focus on life-threatening traffic offences namely, use of a phone while driving, route violation, traffic light violation, dangerous driving and overloading.
According to the Corps’ Public Education Officer, Mr Bizi Kazeem, offenders shall have their driver’s licenses withdrawn pending confirmation of their sanity or otherwise.
Kazeem explained that the offenders would bear the full cost of the medical consultation, which shall be conducted at recognized public medical facilities.
“The move arose from observed aggravating crashes and disobedience to road traffic laws and regulation.

Meanwhile, some Abuja residents have lauded the FRSC for the move which they said was long overdue.
One of them, Miss Ngozi Okafor, a civil servant, said the behaviour of motorists on the road especially in Abuja called for a check on their mental state.
“Abuja is a place where the roads are too wide for motorists. They prefer driving on sidewalks meant for pedestrians.
“Security agents and private vehicle owners are not left out in this madness. I hope the FRSC will have the courage to also subject them to psychiatric test,’’ she said.

Gov Willie Obiano has inaugurated the newly completed Anambra Computerized Vehicle Testing Service also known as "motor Clinic" in Awka.
The facility which groundbreaking ceremony was performed late 2015, was one of the three such centers expected to be built across the three Senatorial districts of the state under a partnership between the State Government and Temple Syc Inspection Limited.
With a total investment size of 1.6 billion naira, the Project was initiated through the Anambra State Investment Promotion and Protection Agency (ANSIPPA) in collaboration with the Ministry of Road, Rail and Water Transportation to provide modern centres that would promote and ensure a responsible vehicle maintenance culture and road safety to road users.
Inaugurating the Project, Gov Obiano in his speech said it is in line with his first-line charge to protect lives and property of Ndi Anambra, as accident has been identified to be a major cause of death worldwide.
The governor said among other things, that his administration was intensifying repairs on the state roads to complement it's efforts at reducing accidents on the roads.
He revealed that the State government will put the necessary mechanism in place to enforce the use of the center by motorists, adding that additional 100 Vehicle Inspection Officers would be recruited to improve their capacity to function with the establishment of the Service.
Earlier in his address, the Chairman of ANSIPPA and traditional ruler of Umuoji, HRH Igwe Cyril Enweze explained that the project is consistent with the State Government's vision to ensure that all vehicles in the state are registered and operate within a minimum safety standards, adding that it is a shining example of what is possible in the investment-friendly environment which the Obiano administration has entrenched in the state.
The Commissioner for Roads, Rail and Water Transportation, Princess Chinwe Nwebili said aside enhancing road safety, the project will also help reduce traffic gridlock, reduce toxic emissions from vehicles, create jobs for Ndi Anambra and improve the state's internally Generated RevenueIGR). She noted that her Ministry was committed to driving the state government's policy for safer roads in the State.
The Managing Director of Temple Syc, Prince Segun Obayendo said what they were bringing to the state in partnership with the State government, was a unique project that emphasizes the sanctity of human lives over other considerations, assuring that they will deliver the remaining two offices at Nnewi and Onitsha in the coming months.
In their goodwill messages, the State Sector Commander of FRSC, Mr Sunday Ajayi and the Senior Special Assistant to the governor on Agriculture, Tourism, Training, Methodology and State Emergency, Venerable Amechi Okwuosa implored Ndi Anambra and other residents especially the motoring public to ensure that their vehicles are road worthy, commending the governor for creating the enabling environment for investors to come into the State.

The hardworking and innovative Governor in his welcome speech promised to equip the VIO manpower with about 100 personnels, which will in turn create direct employment for teeming Ndi Anambra youths.

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Bayelsa State has warned motorists against making phone calls while driving, saying that violators would not go unpunished.
The State Sector Commander of FRSC, Mr. Wobin Gora, said in Yenagoa, on Wednesday, that making calls while driving was a serious offence that contributed to fatalities on the highways.
Gora said that the fine attached to the offence was N4,000 and urged both government and commercial drivers to endeavour to comply.
He frowned at the rate of violation of traffic rules and regulation in Bayelsa, describing it as worrisome.
Gora said the corps was prepared to clamp down on offenders and violators of traffic rules.
The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has said the Lagos State Governor does not have the right to push the Corps off the roads.
Assistant Corps Marshal and Zonal Commanding Officer of the commission, Shehu Zaki, said it has the right to operate both on the highways and within the cities.
Lagos Governor, Akinwunmi Ambode, had earlier asked the FRSC to limit its activities to only the suburbs of cities and the highways.

“The Governor cannot force us out of the roads, but he can advise us as he has already done.
“That policy of the Lagos state government is even going to help us more and allow us to effectively deliver on our mandate on the highways, even more than before.
“Safety is something that has always been at the heart of FRSC operations and we are doing effectively both within the cities and on the highways,” he added.
Zaki said Ambode’s order had negative implications.
“The implication is that even some members of the public who do not know how we operate have started telling some of our officers to leave the roads, in line with the governor’s call,” he said.
“There are certainly some negative implications to this statement, coming from a state governor and we are mindful of that.
“It did not come as a surprise because it was our own concept; we felt that such a policy will help us to serve the people better,” he added.

The Media Relations and Strategy of the Federal Road Safety Commission, Mr. Bisi Kazeem, has revealed that some FRSC officials who were allegedly drunk while on duty have been recalled for investigation and appropriate discipline if found guilty.
A press release signed by Kazeem states:
“Our attention has been drawn to the recent pictures of the alleged drunken state of personnel of the FRSC during working hours and in uniform, making rounds on blogs, online and conventional media.
“The Corps wishes to assure Nigerians that FRSC remains an organisation that does not condone indiscipline on the part of its workforce, or cover up for their inadequacies, whether officers or other ranks (Marshals).
“The alleged Marshals whose photographs were taken at Tarzan junction, close to Onitsha, have been identified as operatives of the Corps from Nteje Unit Command under the Anambra State Sector Command.
“The Marshals were deployed for traffic control and monitoring for the Easter Special Patrol at Tarzan junction close to Onitsha.
“Anambra State Sector Command, Awka, is the Command that supervises the affairs of the Nteje Unit where they served on the directive of the Corps Marshal, Dr. Boboye Oyeyemi, who abhors indiscipline in all ramifications.
“They have been recalled for administrative and disciplinary action,
“As soon as the administrative panel dispenses with their case, concerned Nigerians will be notified of the appropriate disciplinary actions taken on them.”
