Olivier Giroud has revealed that N’Golo Kante was too shy to grab hold of the World Cup after winning it with France in Moscow last month, according to Daily Mail.
The Chelsea team-mates discussed their World Cup success on the club’s official Facebook page having both played a starring role for Didier Deschamps’ side.
Kante was France’s midfield linchpin and Giroud was the focal point of the attack, despite not registering a shot on target in the tournament.
“Obviously we knew that Hugo (captain Lloris) would be the first one to touch it,” said Giroud after he was asked about getting his hands on the World Cup.
“I have to say I have been clever because I took the good position to touch it.”
The interviewer then asks Kante when he got to touch the World Cup.
“I was waiting for my turn,” he said, before Giroud interrupted.
“He is so shy so he didn’t want to say “give it to me”, so he had to wait.
“Sometimes people came in front of him.At the end of the day someone took it and gave it to him.”
Giroud, 31, also revealed he has fulfilled a lifelong ambition by winning the World Cup. “I was 11 years old when France won their first World Cup and I was so excited,” he said. “I said to my friends “one day I will win it’”
Meanwhile, Arsenal fan Sharky bumped into Kante after Saturday’s match at Stamford Bridge and asked to take a photo with the Chelsea midfielder.
When Sharky revealed his allegiances and said he was upset about the result, Kante showed his nice side by saying ‘sorry’ to the Arsenal supporter.
“Just met this man,” Sharky tweeted, accompanied by two crying emojis: “Told him I was an Arsenal fan and I was upset about the game this weekend but he smiled at me and said ‘sorry’. What a guy.”
England scored a flurry of goals in the second half to defeat Mexico 6-1 on Sunday and finish top of Group B at the 2018 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup.
The first half of the match at Saint-Malo in France was fairly balanced at the Stade de Marville.
Mexico looked bright early on before England grew into the contest and pressed forward.
The deadlock was broken by the North Americans on 37 minutes, as Jacqueline Ovalle scored her fourth goal of France 2018 with a superb finish.
After taking a pass from Katty Martinez in space on the right, she cut inside on her left foot and struck a shot into the top corner.
Though they went into the half-time break trailing, the Young Lionesses sensationally turned the match around in the second half with six unanswered goals, including a hat-trick from Lauren Hemp.
Alessia Russo levelled matters for England on 49 minutes.
Chloe Kelly got on the end of Sandy MacIver’s clearance to put Mo Marley’s side in the lead in the 53rd minute.
Hemp then slotted her first of the match on 62 minutes for 3-1 before Georgia Stanway added a fourth with a fine strike two minutes later.
She went on to seal an emphatic England comeback with two more goals, as the Young Lionesses confirmed their spot in the quarter-finals.
Defeat for Mexico meant their France 2018 campaign was at an end, in spite of starting well with a 3-2 win over Brazil on Aug. 5.
