Juventus forward Cristiano Ronaldo has challenged Lionel Messi to leave Barcelona and sign for a club in Italy.
Portugal international Ronaldo joined Serie A champions Juventus from Real Madrid in a £99.2m deal in the summer.
Ronaldo and Argentina forward Messi, 31, have long been regarded as the world’s best players, each winning five Ballon d’Or awards before Real Madrid’s Luka Modric claimed this year’s prize.
“I’d like him to come to Italy one day,” said Ronaldo, 33.
“I hope he accepts the challenge like me, but if he’s happy there then I respect that.”
Ronaldo spent nine seasons at Real Madrid after arriving from Manchester United in 2009, with Messi having spent his whole career at La Liga rivals Barcelona.
Asked if he missed Messi during an interview with Italian press, Ronaldo added: “No, maybe it’s him who misses me.
“I’ve played in England, Spain, Italy, Portugal and for my national team, while he’s still in Spain.
“Maybe he needs me more. For me, life is a challenge, I like it and I like to make people happy.
“He’s a fantastic player and a good guy, but I don’t miss anything here. This is my new life and I’m happy.
“I left my comfort zone and took on this challenge here in Turin. Everything has gone well, I’ve proven I’m still an incredible player.”
A Russian man has filed for divorce after a fight with his wife over whether Lionel Messi is better than Cristiano Ronaldo. Reports have it that the couple identified as Arsen and Lyudmila, fell out when Arsen celebrated Argentina’s victory over Nigeria.
Arsen decided to pack up his things and leave when his wife, Lyudmila, continued to insist that Portuguese star, Ronaldo, was a superior talent to Messi.
It was the latest in a series of arguments about football and the relative merits of the world’s two best players.
But this time, Arsen decided that the marriage was over and the next morning, he filed for divorce at the courts of the city of Chelyabinsk in the Urals in Russia.
After telling the newspaper that the couple had fallen in love when they met in a bar whilst watching the 2002 World Cup, he said: “Since the beginning of the World Cup, she mocked Messi and said he couldn’t even score a penalty against Iceland.
“I could not contain myself and I told her what I thought about the vain Ronaldo, the Portuguese national team and all the clubs she likes.
“Then I took my belongings and left her forever.”

Real Madrid star player, Cristiano Ronaldo has blamed Barcelona's Lionel Messi for Barcelona’s Champions League quarter final exit to AS Roma on Tuesday.
Barcelona gave away 4-1 lead in the reversed fixture in Camp Nou and were thrashed 3-0 in Rome on Tuesday. Messi was not enabled to lift his side from slumping as they crashed out on away goal rule.
Spanish outlet Don Balon reports that Real Madrid’s Ronaldo blamed the defeat on Messi.
Messi started the season in fine form and still has 39 goals to his name so far.
Ronaldo, however, was dreadful at the beginning of the campaign but has since managed to overtake Messi on 40 strikes for the season.
Reports reaching us said that the Real Madrid star thinks Messi is saving himself for the World Cup in June.
Argentina FA president Claudio Tapia has said that Lionel Messi cannot win the World Cup on his own and needs his Argentina team-mates to raise their game to help him.
Messi cut a folorn figure as Argentina were beaten 1-0 by Germany in the 2014 World Cup final, leaving him without the winners' medal that would help to cement his place in history alongside Pele and Diego Maradona as one of the game's greatest players.
Tapia – the president of the Argentina Football Association - acknowledged that this might be the 30-year-old's last opportunity to win the tournament, but said even the five-time Ballon d'Or winner wouldn't be able to guide Argentina to glory if his team-mates didn't perform at their best.
"Football has evened itself out," Tapia told La Nacion. "We have the best player in the world but we have to help him, he cannot to do it alone.
"He's very mature and to have him is a privilege. He's number one, he has the ambition and the need to win this World Cup."
The two-time tournament winners will face Croatia, Iceland and Nigeria in a group they will be clear favourites to win, but Tapia said that falling short of the semi-finals would not constitute a failure for Argentina.
Since Alejandro Sabella's departure in the aftermath of the 2014 World Cup, Argentina have been coached by Gerardo Martino, Edgardo Bauza and Jorge Sampaoli, and Tapia is not expecting miracles from the latter.
"We're the only team that has had three coaches and reached the World Cup," said Tapia. "The other teams have had work that has been going on over four years."
Spanish giants, FC Bacelona lost its superstar player, Neymar in the off-season after French giants, Paris Saint-Germain sensationally activated his €222million release clause in August.
Neymar was a key member of Barca's famed 'MSN' forward trio, alongside Messi and Luis Suarez, helping the club to two La Liga titles and the Champions League among others.
But five-time Ballon d'Or winner Messi, said Barca who are unbeaten and 11 points clear atop the table, are better without the Brazil star.
While speaking with World Soccer, Messi said:
"Without Neymar we are more balanced. His departure meant a change in our way of playing, we lost a lot of attacking potential, but it helped in the defensive sense. We are currently very well armed in the midfield; this makes us stronger in defence."
Barca are also preparing for the last 16 of the Champions League, where they will meet Chelsea for a spot in the quarter-finals.
However, Messi believes another English side, Pep Guardiola's Manchester City, are the team to watch, along with PSG.
"Manchester City are one of the strongest teams in the world at the moment. The same goes for PSG," the Argentina attacker said.
"However, there's a lot of football still to play and I don't rule out Real Madrid yet as they have a lot of quality and experience. Then there's Bayern Munich, another great team who will fight till the end. But right now, City and PSG are the best."

Instead, late substitute Aleix Vidal added further insult in injury time with a third for Barca, as his shot from inside the box squeezed over the line after Messi's cut-back, despite the Argentine losing his boot in the build-up to his 200th assist for the club.
It is the first time Barca have won three consecutive away league matches at the Bernabeu, and the result leaves Zinedine Zidane's side fourth in the table.

With the half just nine minutes old, Madrid were left horribly exposed after Ivan Rakitic was allowed to run through the heart of a midfield that had been set up with the idea of containing Messi paramount - with roles for Casemiro, Mateo Kovacic, Kroos and Luka Modric.
Rakitic found wing-back Roberto, and Suarez finished the move off crisply for his 10th of the season - before the game's key moment arrived nine minutes later.
After Messi found Suarez with a through pass, the Uruguayan twice had the chance to beat Navas in a one-on-one. He was first denied by the keeper, then saw his shot strike the post.

As the rebound came back, Paulinho lunged to head on goal and Carvajal instinctively trusted his hand to block - Navas would have considered it a fine save.
The Spain defender was shown a straight red card, leaving his side hamstrung in their search for a way back in.
Bale, yet to force his way back in to a regular starting slot following his latest spell out injured, was one of three changes made by Zidane after his side went down to 10.
He perhaps should have been more composed when found free in the box late on, but this victory was a deserved one for Barca.
Ernesto Valverde's side remain unbeaten in the league this season - they have won 14 and drawn three since their 5-1 aggregate defeat by Madrid in the two-legged season-opening Spanish Super Cup in August.
