Olivier Giroud has revealed that N’Golo Kante was too shy to grab hold of the World Cup after winning it with France in Moscow last month, according to Daily Mail.

The Chelsea team-mates discussed their World Cup success on the club’s official Facebook page having both played a starring role for Didier Deschamps’ side.

Kante was France’s midfield linchpin and Giroud was the focal point of the attack, despite not registering a shot on target in the tournament.

“Obviously we knew that Hugo (captain Lloris) would be the first one to touch it,” said Giroud after he was asked about getting his hands on the World Cup.

“I have to say I have been clever because I took the good position to touch it.”

The interviewer then asks Kante when he got to touch the World Cup.

“I was waiting for my turn,” he said, before Giroud interrupted.

“He is so shy so he didn’t want to say “give it to me”, so he had to wait.

“Sometimes people came in front of him.At the end of the day someone took it and gave it to him.”

Giroud, 31, also revealed he has fulfilled a lifelong ambition by winning the World Cup. “I was 11 years old when France won their first World Cup and I was so excited,” he said. “I said to my friends “one day I will win it’”

Meanwhile, Arsenal fan Sharky bumped into Kante after Saturday’s match at Stamford Bridge and asked to take a photo with the Chelsea midfielder.

When Sharky revealed his allegiances and said he was upset about the result, Kante showed his nice side by saying ‘sorry’ to the Arsenal supporter.

“Just met this man,” Sharky tweeted, accompanied by two crying emojis: “Told him I was an Arsenal fan and I was upset about the game this weekend but he smiled at me and said ‘sorry’. What a guy.”

Chelsea midfielder N’Golo Kante completed a prestigious awards double on Monday when he was named footballer of the year by Britain’s Football Writers’ Association (FWA).

The France international, 26, won the Premier League title with Leicester City last season and is closing in on a second successive triumph with Chelsea.

He beat team-mate Eden Hazard to the award, voted on by the FWA’s 340 members, having last month been voted Players’ Player of the Year by the Professional Footballers’ Association (PFA).

“It is a fantastic honour to win this award,” Kante said in a press release.

“With so many great players in this Chelsea squad and in the Premier League, for the Football Writers’ Association of this country to name me as their footballer of the year is a very proud moment in my career.”

Kante joined Chelsea from Leicester in a £32 million ($41.5 million, 38 million euros) move last year and has become an instrumental figure for Antonio Conte’s league leaders.

Chelsea require two victories from their last four games to take the title.

Hazard, who won the FWA/PFA awards double in 2015, came second in the voting, with Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Dele Alli third.

Kante and Hazard amassed more than 65 percent of the journalists’ votes, which were spread across 17 different players.

Kante will receive his award at a gala dinner in London on May 18.
