When it comes to breaking world records, Nigerians seem to have a hack around it. The determination and focus of many Nigerians have led Nigerians to claim many world titles, including boxing, but this time, we didn’t just break an existing world record, but a fresh new record.
On May 1, 2019, Nigerian publisher and serial entrepreneur, Chidi Nwaogu, posted on LinkedIn that his application to break the Guinness World Record for the ‘longest credit on a book’ has been accepted, and it was ‘time to break this fresh world title’. According to the screenshot of an acceptance email sent to him by the Guinness World Record, his application, with reference number 180410165252lcoa had ‘been accepted’.
LinkedIn embed post:
The ‘Longest credit on a book’ is a world title given to any single book published with an ISBN, with a ‘Credits’ section that has at least 10,001 names of real people printed on it, who gave their consent to be credited. To achieve this, Nwaogu went on to LinkedIn to get the consent of at least 10,001 people to have their names printed on his book.
His post read: “Publiseer will be publishing a book written by me, and this book will hold the world title for the “Longest credit on a book”. It’s a fresh record, and we simply need at least 10,001 names to break this record. If you’d like to be part of this record-breaking event, simply comment on this post “Count me in” and your name (as it appears on LinkedIn) along with at least 10,000 others who comment on this post, will be published on the book as the credits. Let’s do this together, LinkedIn!“
Within 4 days, over 14,000 people had commented “Count me in”, thus giving the young Nigerian the consent to print their names on his Guinness World Record-breaking book titled “10 Laws of Finding the Right Co-founder”. With 1,516,662 views on his LinkedIn post, Nwaogu was able to amass 5,887 likes, 14,175 comments and 238 shares, as at Sunday, May 5, 2019, 8:18 AM GMT, and these figures are rapidly increasing as I write.
With a huge social following of 34,189 on LinkedIn, Nwaogu, has successfully met the conditions to the break the Guinness World Record for the longest credit on a book. This is a fresh Guinness World Record that hasn’t been broken before, so Nwaogu must be really adventurous to have ventured into this. Nwaogu’s book with at least 14,000 credits will hold the Guinness World Record for the ‘Longest Credit on a Book’, but the question on everyone’s mind is “For how long will he hold this record before someone surpasses his record?”
Nwaogu isn’t the only Nigerian to have broken a Guinness World Record. Wizkid, DJ Obi, Debbie Odumewu, and Kafayat Shafau-Ameh, are some of the Nigerians who have gone ahead in the past to break a world record.

This partnership comes at the time Publiseer announced its expansion to Egypt, its first entrance to Northern Africa.
This is Publiseer's fourth expansion outside its home country Nigeria. Before this, Publiseer has expanded into Ghana, Kenya and South Africa. With this expansion, Publiseer's authors and musical artists from Egypt will get customer support via +20 101 818 7476.

As the holidays approach, Nigeria's digital content distribution company, Publiseer, has been working hard on developing new features and partnerships based on the feedback it received so far this year. In the spirit of the holidays, today, Publiseer announces that it will now deliver digital content to over 3,000 book libraries around the world, including the US, the UK, Canada, and Australia, thanks to cloudLibrary, a lending platform by Bibliotheca.
Bibliotheca has been a highly requested distribution channel from most of Publiseer's authors, so Publiseer is really excited about this expansion of its distribution channel. Two months ago, Publiseer announced that it will be taking its library distribution even deeper with its addition of Baker & Taylor as part of its library distribution service. Now, the distribution goes even deeper with the addition of cloudLibrary.
These new libraries to be added to Publiseer's distribution channel have hundreds of thousands of eBooks and very engaged readers, and so this is an exciting opportunity for expanding the readership of its authors. All books published by Publiseer will be automatically be distributed to cloudLibrary after December 20, 2018.
"The upcoming holidays might delay the regular distribution process. However, we're working harder to expedite the distribution process", says Chidi Nwaogu, Publiseer's Chief Executive Officer, who was recently invited to The Future Leaders Forum 2018 by The Future Awards Africa in partnership with the University of Sussex.
The cloudLibrary platform offers royalties based on their standard library model and "Pay Per Use" (PPU) option. With the standard library model, the library purchases a single copy of an author's book to lend out. As a book is purchased for lending Publiseer provides a higher library price, which is three times higher than the original list price of the book at other bookstores like Amazon. Of course, the royalty of the author will be paid out after this higher price.
With the PPU option, a check-out of an author's book by a patron triggers a sale. The price of a check-out is 30% of the book's original list price. For Publiseer's authors who use the Premium Distribution Option, they get to keep all the royalties they earn from Bibliotheca.

Publiseer took to its Facebook page to announce its third expansion outside its home country Nigeria. This time, the digital publisher expands to South Africa, the country the word 'Publiseer' comes from. Before this expansion, Publiseer had expanded into its neighbouring West African country Ghana, and Kenya. With this new expansion, Publiseer's authors and musical artists from South Africa will get customer support via +27 64 396 8857. Before this expansion, Publiseer's creatives from South Africa only got support via email and chat messaging.
An expansion into South Africa has always been in the pipeline. The founders, Chidi and Chika Nwaogu named Publiseer over a year ago from the Afrikaans word that translates to 'publish' in English. The founders have always known that expansion into South Africa was imminent. "When naming the platform, we brainstormed and played around with a couple of words. Many words from different languages, but the name Publiseer really stood out. It stood out in many ways. One, it was just a letter different from the word Publisher and it also means publish in Afrikaans, a language spoken in South Africa and Namibia," Chidi Nwaogu, Co-founder and CEO of Publiseer says. "Finally expanding into the South African market is a dream come true. Hopefully, we get to make several milestones here as we've done in Nigeria."
The book publishing and music industry in Africa is very large. In Nigeria alone, the music industry is worth $47 million (2015). This figure is expected to reach $86 million in 2020. The music revenue in South Africa is expected to be $178 million in 2020. Kenya's music revenue is expected to grow from $19 million (2016) to $29 million in 2020. In South Africa, digital music streaming revenue is forecast to rise from $5.3 million in 2015 to $31.5 million in 2020, and the turnover from locally published e-books in South Africa was $209,300 in 2015. "We know that South Africa has a huge potential for digital publishing and that's why we're here," Chidi continues.
Launched on August 4, 2017, Publiseer publishes, protects and monetizes the creative works of writers and musicians from low-income communities in Africa, at no charge, with just a single click. Other prizes to be won at the competition include a marketing package worth US$500 from Disrupt Africa, Africa's foremost startup news outlet, and a six months free membership of the Nairobi Garage Club SPace on Ngong Road. According to Tom Jackson, a co-founder of Disrupt Africa, " For more than three years now, Disrupt Africa has been the vital link between innovative African tech startups and investors, partners and other opportunities to grow their businesses. “We’re very excited to offer a new platform for Africa’s startup community to show off its innovative flair. We look forward to selecting the cream of East Africa’s startup crop to join us for our inaugural Live Pitch Competition – we’re sure it will be an inspiring show, and we hope it unlocks great new opportunities for all involved,” said Gabriella Mulligan.
According to Hannah Clifford, a director of Nairobi Garage, "As the city’s leading entrepreneurship hub, Nairobi Garage is very proud to support the East African leg of the Disrupt Africa Live Pitch Competition. The day promises to be an exceptional chance to see Nairobi’s top tech talent take to the stage, and we look forward to welcoming the winners at our newly opened Club Space."
The competition received several applications from African startups that are less than five years old and the team reviewed and selected the top ten startups with original solutions able to disrupt the social or economic status quo, have a proven traction and looking for funding in order to take their business to the next level.
This news comes three months after Publiseer was accepted to the Ayada Lab Incubation program local workshop in Abuja, organized by the Goethe Institut and Institut Francais, in partnership with Ventures Platform Foundation.

Digital content distribution company, Publiseer, and music production and beat distribution company, Caketunes, has today concluded a partnership that will see more African musical contents around the world.
Publiseer will distribute beats and songs uploaded on the Caketunes platform to hundreds of well-established music platforms like iTunes, Spotify, Google Play Music, Pandora, Deezer and Amazon Music. Also, artists using Publiseer can buy beats on Caketunes for a 25% discount.
"We completely believe in taking chances. Seeing Publiseer launched last year was the best story ever. We had always known that we'd definitely do business together some day and here after a short while, we are coming together to simplify the process of uploading music across all music streaming platforms and stores," Ability Elijah, Co-founder of Caketunes, said.
"Unlike other platforms, Publiseer does not charge musicians to distribute their songs. They probably must have studied the market and finally decided to take the free route, which was actually what caught our interest. These guys understand their market," Elijah continued.
"Caketunes is a welcome development to African producers and musicians seeking ways to sell their creatives. Our partnership will see hundreds of African musical contents distributed worldwide, if not thousands," Chidi Nwaogu, Co-founder of Publiseer, said.
"This partnership comes at a moment when Publiseer is planning on taking a deeper step into music distribution. We are known as a digital music distributor, but we are working towards the distribution of physical CDs worldwide. This service will be rolled out very soonest," Nwaogu continued.
Publiseer is a digital music distribution platform for independent musical artists, while Caketunes is a marketplace for buying and selling beats, songs, and production services.
