Real Madrid has topped the table of the world’s 20 richest football clubs, displacing Manchester United with record revenues of €750.9m (£674.6m). Man Utd slipped to third with Barcelona making it the first Spanish one-two since 2014-15, said Deloitte.
Its Football Money League, based on season 2017-18, also shows the combined revenues of the top 20 clubs has risen 6% to €8.3bn (£7.4bn), a new record.
There were a record six English Premier League clubs in the top 10.
‘Outstanding Performance’
The list, the 22nd of its kind, only looks at revenues and does not take into account club debts. This gap this year between the top two places was the second widest yet, with €60.5m between the leading pair.
Real Madrid won their third successive Champions League, beating Liverpool 3-1 in Kiev last May. That helped raise income for Los Blancos, who have now topped Deloitte’s money league 12 times.
The club experienced commercial growth of €54.8m, including an increase in sponsorship and merchandising revenues, as well as the exploitation of increasingly lucrative pre-season tour matches.
At €356.2m, Real Madrid now has the highest commercial revenue of any football club globally, contributing to those world-record revenues.
Dan Jones, head of Deloitte’s sports business group, said:
“Real Madrid’s outstanding financial performance in 2017-18 is built on their long history of success on the pitch, most recently three consecutive Champions League titles.
“This has enabled the club to continue to drive commercial revenue as the appetite to partner with Europe’s most successful clubs remains stronger than ever.”
He said most of Deloitte’s top 10 of our top 10 were through to the round of 16 in this season’s Champions League and forecasting further revenue growth.
‘Big Five’
Bayern Munich and Manchester City completed the top five, retaining their positions from the past two years. Paris St-Germain, Liverpool, Chelsea, Arsenal, and Tottenham Hotspur occupied places six to 10, with Spurs making it into the top tier for only the second time, having last appeared in 2006-07.
Everton was in 17th spot, Newcastle United 19th, and West Ham United 20th.
All the 20 clubs represented are from the “big five” European leagues, with Italy having four places, Germany and Spain contributing three clubs, and France one.

“The substantial presence of Premier League clubs continues to be felt in this year’s Deloitte Football Money League,” said Deloitte’s Sam Boor.
“However, with the Premier League’s tender for the next cycle of domestic rights from 2019-20 complete and sale of overseas rights nearing conclusion, it is clear that Premier League clubs will be unable to rely on explosive growth in broadcast distributions as a source of future growth, as has been the case in recent years
“As a result, we expect an even greater emphasis among these clubs on generating their own growth in the coming season, and in particular the optimization of commercial revenue, which has been a key area for differentiating growth across most of Europe’s leading clubs in recent years.”
Former Chelsea Manager Antonio Conte has reportedly ‘ruled himself out’ of contention to become the new Real Madrid coach following the dismissal of Julen Lopetegui on Monday, a day after Los Blancos were humiliated 5-1 in El Clásico by Barcelona.
Conte had been the early favourite to succeed Lopetegui, but Real instead chose to appoint Santiago Solari as a short-term interim option after seemingly failing to reach an agreement with the Italian.
Now, a report from Sky Sports claims that Conte has withdrawn from the running altogether.
Sky explains that Conte, who was sacked by Chelsea in July, feels the project on offer in Madrid is ‘not right’ for him and will, therefore, extend his ongoing break from football until the summer.
This update comes shortly after Belgium national team coach Roberto Martinez was installed as the new favourite to land the job instead after his stock has risen massively since 2016.
That same report on Martinez originating from the Daily Mail also alleges that misgivings about Conte from ‘key figures’ in the Real dressing room were part of the reason the ex-Juventus boss will not be getting the job in the Spanish capital.
Conte has enjoyed great success in his managerial career so far. After earning his stripes with Bari and Siena in Serie B, he guided Juventus to three successive Serie A titles. He was then appointed Italy coach, before leading Chelsea to the Premier League title in 2017.
A downturn and falling out with several players in his second season saw him sacked and replaced by Maurizio Sarri in the summer, despite delivering an FA Cup just two months earlier.
LUKA MODRIC has been named the FIFA Best Men’s Player at The Best Football Awards on Monday evening in London, therefore ending the 10-year domination of Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi.
The Real Madrid and Croatia midfielder, who won the Golden Ball at the World Cup and was also named UEFA Men’s Player of the Year in August, fought off competition from fellow nominees Cristiano Ronaldo and Mohamed Salah.
But the night was overshadowed by a Ronaldo-Messi no-show as the Portuguese superstar declined to make the trip from Turin to London and Barcelona’s Argentine pleaded family commitments.
Ronaldo and Messi had each won the award five times over the past decade and should have picked up their trophies for being in the team of the year.
Despite that seeming double strop, former Spurs midfielder Modric was rewarded for his part in steering Real Madrid to their unprecedented third consecutive Champions League and then guiding his homeland to the World Cup Final.
England boss Gareth Southgate conceded Modric had made the difference as Croatia came from behind to beat the Three Lions in their semi-final showdown.
According to reports from Spain, Paris St-Germain have accepted Neymar will join the La Liga giants sooner or later.
And rather than waste time and energy on changing the Brazilian’s mind, they have been working on finding his future replacement.
The player they have identified as being up to the task of stepping into Neymar’s boots is Antoine Griezmann. The Atletico Madrid striker almost joined Barcelona this summer before he changed his mind.
Griezmann instead signed a new deal at the Wanda Metropolitana ahead of winning the World Cup with France. But Atletico will not be able to stand in PSG’s way if they come for the 27-year-old. Okdiario’s chief pundit Eduardo Inda, speaking on El Chiringuito says the Ligue 1 outfit see Griezmann as relatively good value.

An hour after Real Madrid's statement, Juventus confirmed the news of Ronaldo's capture on their website.
The club confirmed that they will pay £88m (€100m) to the Spanish giants, with a further payment of £10m is believed to be going to his first club Sporting Lisbon.

Ronaldo leaves Real Madrid with a legacy littered with smashed records and a haul of trophies.
He is the Spanish club's all-time top scorer with 450 goals in all competitions and won two La Liga titles and four Champions League trophies with them.
'For Real Madrid, Cristiano Ronaldo will always be one of its greatest symbols and a unique reference for the generations to come,' Real Madrid's statement added.

While there was success, Ronaldo also had, at times, a turbulent relationship with Real Madrid's club hierarchy, particularly club president Florentino Perez.
The first signs of an uneasy relationship emerged when he declared on the pitch in 2012, 'I'm sad and the club know why', and they reared their head again after the 4-1 win over Juventus in the 2017 Champions League final when newspaper A Bola said he had decided to leave.
Ronaldo's complaints, said to be centred around Real's reluctance to hand him a pay-rise and a perceived lack of support for him in his legal battle against the Spanish tax authorities, received little sympathy among fans or the Spanish media, however.
Their patience wore even thinner when he hogged the narrative after Real had beaten Liverpool in the 2018 Champions League final in Kiev by saying 'it was beautiful to play for Real Madrid,' seemingly re-airing his dissatisfaction with the club.
It was an unedifying yet strangely fitting end to a glorious yet bumpy marriage between one of the sport's greatest ever players and one of its most storied clubs.

Ronaldo will rightly be remembered as one of Real's best ever players, although he never quite enjoyed the God-like status he seemed to craved.
The 33-year-old's first game for Juventus could come against his former club when the two meet in the International Champions Cup.
The two play each other on August 4 at FedEx Field in Washington.
Nevertheless, former Real Madrid team-mates were quick to post their own tributes to Ronaldo.
Defender Sergio Ramos tweeted: 'Cristiano, your goals, your numbers and everything we've won together speak for themselves. You have earned a special place in the history of Real Madrid.
'As Madridistas we'll remember you always. It's been a pleasure to play alongside you, bicho. Big hug and good luck!'
Sami Khedira, who played with Ronaldo at Real Madrid before joining Juventus in 2015, added: 'Benvenuto a Torino (Welcome to Turin), Cristiano.
'We had a great time together in Madrid, I can't wait to get back to work with you! Today is a special day for Juventus.'
Juventus striker Paulo Dybala also sent a tweet to Ronaldo welcoming him to Turin.
'Bienvenido Cristiano. Bevenuto. Bemvindo!' he wrote, which translates as: 'Welcome, Cristiano. Welcome.'
Former Manchester United team-mate, Gary Neville, tweeted: 'Stunned! Never believed a word of it! Expected a new RM deal.'

It is believed that the transfer was finalized at the meeting in Greece, where Ronaldo is currently on holiday with his girlfriend and family.
Real Madrid confirmed the transfer late on Tuesday afternoon. In a statement, the club admitted that they had granted Ronaldo his wish to leave the club.

Juventus are close to agreeing on a deal to sign Cristiano Ronaldo from Real Madrid. It is understood there could be significant developments in the next 48 hours, with Real expected to make a final decision about how to proceed with the offer from Juventus.
The Serie A champions are hoping to complete a club-record £88m deal for the 33-year-old, who is set to leave Madrid after nine years at the Santiago Bernabeu.
Ronaldo, who is Madrid’s all-time leading goalscorer with 450 to his name, has won two La Liga titles, two Copa del Reys and four Champions League crowns during his time with the club.
Talks have been ongoing between Juventus, Madrid and Ronaldo’s agent, Jorge Mendes.

Zinedine Zidane has announced that he is leaving Real Madrid less than a week. Despite clinching a third successive European title just five days ago, the Frenchman's tenure at the Santiago Bernabeu is at an end.
The club revealed on Thursday that Zidane was to appear in a hastily arranged news conference that caught many by surprise, fuelling speculation that his tenure at the Santiago Bernabeu could be coming to an end.
Zidane confirmed his departure at the start of the news briefing, just five days after he presided over the 3-1 Champions League final win over Liverpool.
"It's time to go. These players need a different discourse, a different methodology," the Frenchman said.
Such success, which he also managed in each of his first two seasons in charge of the team, has not been enough to persuade him to prolong his spell.
The 45-year-old was believed to be under contract with Real until 2020 but a poor campaign in the league appears to have ended his fairytale at the club where he played as a midfielder for five years.
Madrid's third-place LaLiga finish is likely the major factor in Zidane's departure, as Los Blancos ended the season 17 points adrift of bitter rivals and champions Barcelona.
He did, however, confirm that he was not pushed out of the door.
"It's my decision," he said. "For many people, this will not make sense, but it does for me. It's time for a change," he confirmed.
