“We only need more sensitisation and awareness for subsequent outings.
“I am sure that with time, more candidates will key in, and I know with time, it is going to get better,’’ she said.

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, JAMB, has disclosed that it would demand for the records of Ordinary and Advanced Level results of candidates recommended by tertiary institutions before offering them admission.
This was disclosed by the JAMB boss, Ishaq Oloyede during the meeting on admissions exercise/processes for Innovative Enterprise Institutions in Abuja on Tuesday.
The registrar said that institutions must maintain the standard set by the board beginning from this year’s admission.
”From this year now, we are demanding records of the O levels of the candidates you are admitting and that is for the first time,” Mr. Oloyede said.
“When you recommend a person for admission we want to see what qualification he or she possesses not just you telling me that he or she scored 300 in UTME. What of the real qualification?” he said.
He said the board would stop the ”regularisation of all forms of illegal admissions conducted by tertiary institutions from this year.”
“Any admission ‘done under the table’ would not be regularized. Candidates and tertiary institutions must desist from engaging in any form of illegal admission. Illegal admission in terms of people not even taking the unified tertiary matriculation examination, UTME at all not to talk of scoring zero.
Illegal admission by even admitting people who do not have the requisite ordinary level (O level) because before now JAMB does not have the record of their O level (results).” He emphasized.

The West African Examination Council (WAEC) yesterday announced a 59.22 percent pass rate in the 2017 May/June West African Senior School Examinations (WASSCE).
The 59.22 percent represents the number of candidates that obtained credit pass in five subjects including English language and Mathematics.
This figure happens to be the best the council has achieved in the last 10 years.
This is a great improvement when compared with the 2008 results which had just 13.76 of the candidates that sat for the exam obtaining credit passes in five subjects including English Language and Mathematics.
It is also on record that the percentage of candidates in this category in WASSCE for 2015 and 2016 were 38.68 percent and 52.97 percent, respectively.
In the light of this, it can be said that these results may be an indication that we are gradually drifting away from the era of mass failure that has characterized the performance of candidates in past times.

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has advised GCE candidates to endeavour to collect their certificates within four years of writing the examination as any delay beyond that will henceforth attract a custody fee.
This was disclosed by Demianus Ojijeogu, the Head of Public Affairs Department, WAEC, Nigeria during a phone interview with journalists According to him, “the normal charge for the certificate is N3,500 and only payable by those whose certificates were issued between zero and four years.
“But from five to nine years is N8,500; 10 to 14 years N13,500; 15 to 19 years N18, 500 while 20 years and above will be charged N23, 500.
“These charges are (for) custody fee; for keeping the certificates for so long because it occupies space in our office. It will also serve as a deterrent to others.“
I don’t know the reason why people will sit for exams and their certificates are ready yet they will not come for collection. What was the essence of the certificate in the first place?’’
He also said that requirements for collection of the GCE certificates within Nigeria were an application letter, sworn affidavit from the High Court, online result print- out, one passport-size photograph, photo card and identity card.
