Sam Shaikh, from Stratford, was the first to enter the Apple Store in Covent Garden, London, having been outside "since 8.30pm on Monday night" A customer who had camped out all week was the first to cross the threshold of an Apple Store as the new iPhone 6s and 6s Plus went on sale this morning.....

The new smartphones have Apple's new pressure sensitive screen , called 3D Touch, as well as a redesigned camera. Sam Shaikh, from Stratford, was the first to enter the Apple Store in Covent Garden, London, having been outside "since 8.30pm on Monday night" - while this woman in Australia even sent a robot to queue on her behalf.

Mr Shaikh, 29, was greeted by claps and cheers from the staff, as they welcomed the first of several hundred customers waiting outside.

Mr Shaikh said he was also the first person in the queue last year when the iPhone 6 launched.

In Birmingham, Callum Edward-Williams, 22, slept outside the store in the Bullring shopping centre in the city to be the first to get his hands on the gadget.

The student, who is studying Nursing at the University of Wolverhampton, had been queuing since 8pm on Wednesday evening for the £699 64GB model.

Callum said:
"I've queued for every new iPhone that's been released since the 4S. "I was first in line this morning and purchased the 64GB 6S Plus model in rose gold. "I'm definitely very loyal to Apple. I think the staff must recognise my because I'm here for every launch day. "I'm queuing with my friends, and we take it in turns with the other people in the queue to go for toilet breaks and to get food. "We're like a little Apple family."The new iPhone is looking to repeat the success of the record-breaking launch of the iPhone 6 last year, which sold 10 million units in its first days of sale.
The firm has already said it believes it is "on pace" to match last year's sales.

Several hundred people queued outside the Covent Garden outlet, with coffee being handed out to those who had waited overnight.

In London, there was also a line around Apple’s flagship store on London’s Regent Street and despite the high cost of the new models, it seems some people are willing to splurge big to get cutting edge technology, rather than trying to find the best deals.

The iPhone 6s (128GB) is top choice for people in that queue with 45% of people surveyed waiting in line for the smaller £699 model, whereas 27% wanted the bigger £789 iPhone 6s Plus.
About 30 people waited outside the Apple store in Liverpool during the early hours to be one of the first to purchase the new iPhone 6s.

A very keen 29% of them wanted both phones, according to the survey from gadget insurer Protect Your Bubble.
More than half (56%) upgrade their handsets every time a new iPhone comes out , while more than a fifth (22%) said their current phone was on its last legs and 15% were simply bored of their current handsets. Another 7% were queuing for someone else.

As for colour, rose gold was top choice (51%) followed by space grey (20%), gold (18%) and silver (12%).

The favourite new feature, voted for by 47% of queuers was 3D Touch technology , but functionality was outweighed by form for many queuers, with more than a quarter (26%) excited by the new rose gold colour (26%) over the improved camera (15%), the A9 chip (9%) and iOS9 (3%).
People had travelled from as far as Saudi Arabia, South Africa and Malaysia to be there. Front of the queue was Moey Shawash, 31, an advertising manager from T3 Magazine, who had flown over from Cape Town, South Africa and reserved his place in advance online.

Read About the queue
  1. The London Regents Street queue had attracted around 297 people by the time doors opened at 8am today
  2. It was 87% male
  3. The average age of queuers was 27.5 years
