A major airport was thrown into turmoil yesterday when a
passenger was found to have an iPhone case shaped like a GUN. The bizarre phone accessory caused major panic at
Amsterdam's Schiphol Airport.
Reports has it that all but one terminal gate was closed
for “security reasons”.
Passengers were left scratching their heads at the
unexplained delay before every passenger at the gate had to go through a second
security check.
It was later reported the case, which looks like a black
automatic pistol, was behind the security measures. Schiphol, one of Europe's busiest airports, was where doomed
flight MH17 flew from before it was shot down over Ukraine.
In August 2012 airliner the airport was at the centre of a
mid-air hijacking scare after a major mix-up between the pilot and traffic
control. Two Dutch F-16 fighter jets had to be scrambled to intercept
the Spanish plane when there was a prolonged radio silence as it neared
Schiphol.
Officials feared the 180 passengers had been taken hostage
and forced the Airbus A320 to land before ordering security forces to surround
the craft. But it was quickly found to be a false alarm when armed
guards stormed the jet.
