Barcelona Football Club star player, Lionel Messi is presently
facing tax evasion charge and is likely to stand trial alongside his father,
Jorge. The judge in charge of the case in Spain, reportedly
rejected the request by prosecutors to drop
the charges against the Argentine
footballer and his father Jorge, who are accused of defrauding Spain of more
than €4m (£3.1m; $5m) and have denied.
Some prosecutors alleged that the footballer's dad avoided
paying tax on his son’s earnings by using offshore companies in Belize and
Uruguay in 2007-09. This case might see to the footballer bagging a one and half
year sentence.
