Ahmadu Bello University ABU belongs to the First generation Universities in Nigeria, it was officially launched on October 4th 1962 in a colorful ceremony presided over by it's first Chancellor, Sir Ahmadu Bello.

Today, Ahmadu Bello University has turned out to be the largest university in Nigeria, sub-saharan Africa and second largest to Al-Azhar University in Africa covering a land area of about 7,000 hectares. The University embraces 12 Faculties, a Postgraduate school, 94 Departments, 6 Institutes, 6 Specialized centres, a Division of 4 Agricultural colleges (DAC), a School of Basic and Remedial Studies (SBRS), a Demonstration Secondary School (DSS), and a Primary School.

Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) has produced over 800,000 graduates in the last 50years (1962 - 2012). Among our alumni are President, Governors, Speakers, Chief Judges, SGFs, Ministers, Academicians, Technocrats, Human right activists and others.
