Arsenal put themselves back in the Premier League title race after a dramatic win on Sunday against Leicester, who were reduced to ten men. The 2-1 Valentine's Day victory has broken the hearts of many Leicester fans, and could harm the Foxes' incredible momentum of the past few months.
Leicester are still the team at the top, but Sunday's defeat to Arsenal may knock some of their confidence built up after a string of victories, including against champions Chelsea. A header from Danny Welbeck on the end of a Mesut Ozil free-kick deep into injury time, completed the Gunners' comeback victory against the league leaders.
Leicester had already been bruised after Danny Simpson was dismissed for two bookable offences in the 53rd minute, reducing the team to ten men. Leicester had earlier taken the lead at the end of the first half through a Jamie Vardy penalty, though it looked as though a foul on Mesut Ozil went unpunished in the build up.
The Foxes, as is their way, gave everything, and for a while it looked like they would frustrate Arsenal's hopes of securing their 14th title. But goals from Theo Walcott and the returning Welbeck - who hadn’t appeared all season - in the final seconds handed the home team a 2-1 win that introduced another twist to an in-out season.
This has been one of the most unpredictable seasons in Premier League history - and the title race remains wide open with a third of the season left to play.
Pundits are still predicting that Claudio Ranieri’s tenacious side could clinch the cup no matter what happens between Tottenham HotSpur and Manchester City this afternoon.
