The promotion of 18 commissioners of Police to assistant inspectors-general of Police and appointment of 37 commissioners including nine deputy commissioners has been sanctioned by the Police Service Commission (PSC).
Four AIGs were redeployed and 12 deployed to be in charge of Police Zonal Commands as the rest 10 are to head special formations such as Operations, Training, Police Academy, Info-Tech, Investment, Maritime, and so on.
PSC spokesman, Ikechukwu Ani, in a statement said the commissioner of police, Kaduna state, Ibrahim Adamu, is now AIG, Zone 1; Abdulmajid Ali, Commissioner of police Ogun state, AIG, Zone 2 while Usman Tilli, AIG Border is now AIG zone 3.
The statement further revealed that AIG Dorathy Gimba retained her command of the Investment Formation, AIG Mohammed Mohammed, Special Protection Unit while Mohammed Katsina was moved from Maritime to the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies, Jos and AIG Katsina will be replaced at the Maritime desk by Paul Okafor, commissioner of police Benue state.
According the statement, 16 commissioners of police retained their commands and they include, Peace Ibekwe Abdallah, Ebonyi; Emmanuel Ojukwu, Enugu; Frederick Lakanu, Imo; Adeleye Oyebade, Oyo; Basen Gwana, Abia; Yunana Babas, Taraba; Austin Iwar, Gombe; Murtala Mani, Akwa Ibom and Fatai Owoseni, Lagos.
CP Henry Fadairo was also moved from Research and Planning department to Jigawa State. PSC chairman, Mike Okiro, a retired Inspector General of Police, noted that the promotions and postings were in line with the commission’s determination to move the Nigeria Police Force for better performance.
“The commission will hold any of you personally responsible for any failure in the discharge of his duties,” Okiro said while congratulated the officers.
The force had earlier in the month purged itself by sacking a number of officers senior to the newly appointed Inspector General, Ibrahim Idris.
A statement Ani then, said: “The Police Service Commission has appoved the retirement of 21 Assistant Inspectors General of Police who were senior to the new acting Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, before his appointment.”
