Diego Costa is ready to sign a new £57m five-year contract with Chelseaafter turning down a move to China. The Spain international is understood to have agreed in principle with the Premier League leaders that, according to The Sun, would see him leapfrog Cesc Fabregas to become the club’s top earner.
Once signed it would complete a remarkable turnaround for the 28-year-old, whose future at Stamford Bridge looked in doubt with a lucrative summer move to the Chinese Super League – believed to be worth £30m-a-season – unsettling the striker.
The attacker has been in stunning form this season, scoring 15 goals and providing five assists in the Premier League. And Chelsea will be delighted to keep him.
