Student activists say all hope is not lost on “redeeming” the University of Lagos (UNILAG) from “perdition”.

Their optimism was revived after UNILAG reversed its decision to suspend Ochuba Nelson Chichebe. The young man already graduated from UNILAG and was issued a certificate. But the school suspended him for two semesters for alleged involvement in a student demand for better life on campus.

Our source reported how Chichebe became the “first rusticated graduate in the world”.

UNILAG reversed its decision after public outcry.

The management also reversed its decision to rusticate blind political science student Lawrence success who was allegedly assaulted by campus security in the past.

Lawrence Success was “victimized” for demanding a better life on campus.

“I’ve been informed that I have a letter at the department,” an elated Success told Newsroom on Tuesday.
“I will pick up the letter tomorrow. It is expected to be the letter that reverses the school’s decision to rusticate me,” he said.
We understand Chichebe already picked up his “good news” letter. The school management stated in the letter it changed its decision following “pleas” from stakeholders.

Our source reported how Lagos State government “summoned” UNILAG management to a meeting in Ikeja before UNILAG reversed its decision on Chichebe and Success.

Activists now call on the institution to reinstate Femi Adeyeye and 10 other students rusticated for criticizing the poor state of infrastructure in the school. Adeyeye, and 12 other activists were also wrongfully remanded in Kirikiri Prison after police apparently lied against them.
“The school is heading towards perdition but this good gesture can signal a change in direction, a good one,”
an activist who doesn’t want to be named told our correspondent.

We reached UNILAG management for comments on this story. We’ll let you know when they get back to us.
