The Anambra State Committee for Procurement, Distribution and Regulation of Pricing of Petroleum Products says it has developed measures to ensure that independent marketers of Petroleum products in the state operate within the confines of acceptable standards in metering issues and general product quality.
The Chairman of the committee, Mr Sams Muogbo disclosed this when he received a joint delegation from the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria, IPMAN, and NNPC/ Pipeline and Products Management Company, PPMC, Depot committee who called on him in his office at the government House, Awka.
The State Petroleum Committee Boss who frowned at the activities of some pump stations that adulterate the products and manipulate their dispensing meters, attributed the sharp practices to greed and insensitivity to the plights of the people, reminding them that their patrons who they are exposing to risks could be anyone including their loved ones.
Mr Muogbo said though the State Petroleum Committee under his leadership believes in appealing to the conscience of the Operators to desist from sharp practices, it would not hesitate to take disciplinary actions within the ambits of the law against persistent offenders.
According to him, this is in line with the stance of the Gov Willie Obiano's administration that it is more profitable to spend to recognize and reward those who uphold the right standards than to exhaust same resources punishing offenders.
He appealed to the visiting executives to fully support the efforts of his committee to rid the Petroleum distribution subsector in the State of sharp practices, reminding them that it is the vision of Governor Obiano to revitalize all the facets of his administration to drive the all round quest to deliver best services available to Ndi Anambra.
Earlier in his remarks, the Head of Operations, IPMAN/NUPENG anti-pipeline vandalization and Petroleum Products Adulteration Joint Taskforce, Enugu Zone, Mr Chinedu Anyaso explained that the visit was to identify with the new chairman and show their solidarity and willingness to partner the State government through the committee in ensuring that petroleum distribution and pricing were done in line with the acceptable standards.
He also commended the state committee 's initiative to sanitize the operations of Black marketers in the industry by bringing them together under one umbrella to enlighten them on best practices, assuring that they will work closely with the committee to achieve the vision.
