Gov Willie Obiano has inaugurated the newly completed Anambra Computerized Vehicle Testing Service also known as "motor Clinic" in Awka. 

The facility which groundbreaking ceremony was performed late 2015, was one of the three such centers expected to be built across the three Senatorial districts of the state under a partnership between the State Government and Temple Syc Inspection Limited.

With a total investment size of 1.6 billion naira, the Project was initiated through the Anambra State Investment Promotion and Protection Agency (ANSIPPA) in collaboration with the Ministry of Road, Rail and Water Transportation to provide modern centres that would promote and ensure a responsible vehicle maintenance culture and road safety to road users.


Inaugurating the Project, Gov Obiano in his speech said it is in line with his first-line charge to protect lives and property of Ndi Anambra, as accident has been identified to be a major cause of death worldwide.

The governor said among other things, that his administration was intensifying repairs on the state roads to complement it's efforts at reducing accidents on the roads.

He revealed that the State government will put the necessary mechanism in place to enforce the use of the center by motorists, adding that additional 100 Vehicle Inspection Officers would be recruited to improve their capacity to function with the establishment of the Service.

Earlier in his address, the Chairman of ANSIPPA and traditional ruler of Umuoji, HRH Igwe Cyril Enweze  explained that the project is consistent with the State Government's vision to ensure that all vehicles in the state are registered and operate within a minimum safety standards, adding that it is a shining example of what is possible in the investment-friendly environment which the Obiano administration has entrenched in the state.

The Commissioner for Roads, Rail and Water Transportation, Princess Chinwe Nwebili said aside enhancing road safety, the project will also help reduce traffic gridlock, reduce toxic emissions from vehicles, create jobs for Ndi Anambra and improve the state's internally Generated RevenueIGR). She noted that her Ministry was committed to driving the state government's policy for safer roads in the State.

The Managing Director of Temple Syc, Prince Segun Obayendo said what they were bringing to the state in partnership with the State government, was a unique project that emphasizes the sanctity of human lives over other considerations, assuring that they will deliver the remaining two offices at Nnewi and Onitsha in the coming months.

In their goodwill messages, the State Sector Commander of FRSC, Mr Sunday Ajayi and the Senior Special Assistant to the governor on Agriculture, Tourism, Training, Methodology and State Emergency, Venerable Amechi Okwuosa implored Ndi Anambra and other residents especially the motoring public to ensure that their vehicles are road worthy, commending the governor for creating the enabling environment for investors to come into the State.
