The governor of Anambra state Chief Willie Obiano has ascertained that his success in security gave the impetus and symbolically positively stemmed the socio-economic progress which the State has experienced since inception of his administration.
The governor disclosed this when he he played host to a delegation from the Institute of Security Study, Bwari, Abuja who paid him a courtesy visit at the Governor's Lodge Awka.
The delegation consists of the Course participants at the Institute who are high ranking officers selected from critical agencies in the country including the Paramilitary, Intelligence, Law enforcement agencies, Regulatory bodies amongst others.
The participants were to look at critical security challenges in country, synergize and find solutions to them in the realization that no one agency can do it alone.
Anambra, Kogi, Adamawa and Crossriver states were chosen by the institute for the tour because of how strategic they were to the theme of the study which is "Legislative / Executive Relations: Gaps, Challenges and Prospects ".
Addressing his guests, Gov Obiano noted that Anambra has advanced immensely in the area of security due to some critical steps that he took at the inception of his administration in response to the high insecurity it met.
These, according to him, included procurement of state of-the-art Security equipment to the relevant agencies, creation of synergy amongst security agencies, onslaught against illegal drugs command and control centers, demolition of buildings built with proceeds from armed robbery and kidnapping activities and those used for it, and the inclusion of community heads in the expanded security committee among others.
These measures, he pointed out, did not only restore security but also helped repair the state's damaged public image and gave her a positive reputation which in turn encouraged investors to start seeking opportunities in the state.
Commending the Institute for choosing Anambra for their study, Gov Obiano expressed hope that the exercise would give impetus to the resolve of his administration to ensure that the State remains the safest in the country while providing replicable security strategies that other states could emulate.
The Leader of the delegation and Director at the Department of State Services(DSS) Headquarters, Mr Mathew Seiyefa described Anbra security strategy and model to be very sophisticated also they have realized that without the concerted efforts of stakeholders, no meaningful advancement would take place in the security sector, hence the decision to forge close relationships to be leveraged on for effective security management services in the country.
He pointed out that the state was lucky to have an astute manager and mobilizer of resources in Gov Obiano, saying that there is a lot the institute and indeed the entire country would learn from the Anambra example, not just in the security sector but also as it affects Agriculture, investment promotion and effective resource management .
