The fourth leg of the Athletics Federation of Nigeria Golden League, which was scheduled for Friday and Saturday in Abuja, has been postponed till May 25 and 26 at the same venue.

The Golden League kicked off with the Kaduna leg in December 2017 while the second leg of the series was held in Port Harcourt. The third leg was initially scheduled for Ibadan but it was shifted to Abuja.

Technical director of the federation Sunday Adeleye said the competition was postponed due to the inability of the AFN to get the needed funds to organize it.
“The Abuja Golden League was postponed because the federation could not afford to bear the cost of organizing the event yet. There have been no funds to finance our programmes from the sports ministry since we got into office,” he said.
“The president and some members of the federation have been running the competition because we cannot afford to have athletes just sit and not have any competition. The challenges of organizing the Golden Leagues are much but we can’t complain.
“However, the AFN programme for the year gave too much break between the fourth and fifth legs of the Golden League.”
