The Centre for Citizens with Disabilities (CCD) through its Campaign for Equal Voting Access for persons with disabilities (EVA4PWD) has said it will re-open its Election Day Support Centre for persons with disabilities on Saturday Feb. 23, 2019 from 8am – 4pm.
The support Centre, which is located at Benue Hall Transcorp Hilton Hotel, is part of the efforts of CCD to observe the 2019 General Elections to ensure no-one-is-left-behind by reason of disability.
In a statement to Leadership signed by CCD Executive Director, David O. Anyaele, it revealed that the aims of the centre was to ensure on-the-spot support for persons with disabilities coming out to vote and real time data collection from the field on persons with disabilities participation in the election.
The statement read;
”The Election Day (EVA4PWD) Support Centre for persons with disabilities will be open to local and international observers for the general elections”.
“CCD, through EVA4PWDs, is participating actively for the February 23, 2019 General Elections through the deployment of female and male persons with disabilities as election observers in all the six (Abuja FCT, Abia, Kano, Lagos, Plateau, Gombe, Enugu and Rivers States) geopolitical zones of Nigeria”.
“It is our intention to follow up on the outcome of this election observation which would be rigorously documented, with the view to monitor and evaluate the level of provisions and participation of Nigerians with disabilities in the electoral process”
He further revealed that they will also make necessary recommendations to ensure full implementation of the National Disability Act and INEC Framework on persons with disabilities by all stakeholders”.
“The resultant report would be strategically disseminated among stakeholders working within the broad area of elections and persons with disabilities in Nigeria and INEC in particular”
“Centre for Citizens with Disabilities (CCD) is the premiere organization of and for persons with disabilities on elections in Nigeria. We work to promote disability rights independent living and inclusion of persons with disabilities in the development agenda. CCD is accredited as a local observer for the 2019 general elections. We have over the past 12 years sought a redefinition of persons with disabilities participation in the electoral process”.
