The Senator representing Nasarawa West at the National Assembly, Senator Abdullahi Adamu, has identified the limitations of the lawmakers to intervene in the country’s worsening security situation.

The lawmaker noted that there was nothing the legislature has said to address national security, but the situation has not changed, adding that if anything, it had become worse.

Senator Adamu stated this during Tuesday’s plenary on the floor of the Senate as part of his contribution to the deliberation on the worsening security situation in the country.

He noted that the problem at hand required some drastic measures, but swiftly noted that “our misfortune or limitation is the fact that we can only legislate and oversight.”

“It is common knowledge that where you don’t have the power of hiring, you don’t have the power of firing. Let’s not deceive ourselves with this,” he added.

The lawmaker said that by now Nigerians have been made to understand and can testify the concern of the National Assembly to what is going on in the situation of insecurity.

“But, we must take the step of partnership with the leadership of this country, because each one of us here belongs to the leadership of this country. Where there is failure, the failure is our failure”, the lawmaker said.
