Good morning! Here is today’s summary from Nigerian Newspapers

1. The Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, on Wednesday called off its industrial action.

ASUU Chairman, Professor Biodun Ogunyemi disclosed this during a press briefing on Wednesday, after the union’s ongoing negotiation with the Federal Government.

2. The Presidential Taskforce (PTF) on COVID-19 on Wednesday disclosed to Nigerians that the vaccine for the deadly virus will be administered free when vaccination begins in Nigeria.

National Coordinator of PTF, Sani Aliyu, said President Muhammadu Buhari has given the PTF the mandate to proceed with preparations with regard to the vaccine.

3. A total of one thousand, one hundred thirty-three, 1,133, new cases of COVID-19 infections have been recorded in Nigeria.

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, NCDC, which announced the figure on Wednesday night in a tweet via its official Twitter account, said Lagos State and FCT recorded 397 and 357 cases, respectively, while Kaduna State followed with 81 cases.

4. The Ekiti State Government has announced fresh restrictions to safeguard public health following a spike in the cases of COVID-19 pandemic.

Governor Kayode Fayemi, who reeled out new guidelines to curb the second wave of COVID-19 in a state broadcast on Wednesday evening, said the step became necessary to ensure that the situation does not snowball out of control.

5. Former PDP Governorship Candidate in Anambra State in the 2017 governorship election, Mr Oseloka Obaze has tested positive for COVID-19.

The former diplomat and former secretary to Anambra State government (SGG) under ex-governor, Mr Peter Obi and incumbent governor, Chief Willie Obiano tested positive for the virus after undergoing a pre-travel test.

6. The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) on Wednesday said that 17 corps members were accosted by a gang of armed robbers whose sporadic gunshots killed a corps member, Bomoi Yusuf.

Mrs. Adenike Adeyemi, Director, Press and Public Relations of the scheme, confirmed this in a statement on Wednesday in Abuja.

7. Twelve people died while 25 others were injured in a fatal accident that occurred on Abuja- Kaduna road on Wednesday.

A statement on Wednesday by Commissioner, Ministry of Internal Security and Home Affairs, Mr Samuel Aruwan noted that, “The Kaduna State Government has received a report from security agencies on a fatal road traffic crash which occurred this morning at kilometer 26 of the Kaduna-Abuja highway.

8. A petrol tanker fire incident on Wednesday, killed six persons and set ablaze about 30 buildings in Jebba town, Moro Local Government Area of Kwara State.

The petrol tanker, which was travelling through the town, reportedly lost control and spilled its content as it rammed into residential buildings.

9. At least three persons were said to have died and 33 others injured in a fatal auto crash in Gwachipe bridge in Lambatta, Gurara local government area of Niger State.

Eyewitness accounts stated that the car conveying 36 passengers on board including the driver crashed as a result of overloading and lost control on the bridge and crashed.

10. There was panic in Minjibir Local Government Area of Kano on Wednesday as some heavily armed men stormed the council office, shooting sporadically.

The incident according to an eyewitness, happened at about 2 am Wednesday, living residents scampering for safety.
