A fierce battle happened Sunday night and Monday morning between troops and Islamic State’s West Africa Province (ISWAP).
An unspecified number of soldiers and terrorists died in the gun duel at Marte town in Borno State.
Several ISWAP fighters stormed the area in a convoy of motorcycles and gun trucks.
Their mission was to abduct residents from their settlements, as well as Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) camps.
Units of military troops around Marte rallied and exchanged fire with the insurgents.
Their engagement of the sect foiled the kidnap attempt as locals and the IDPs scampered for safety.
Military intelligence already identified Marte as one of the areas terror groups get assistance/have informants.
“Terrorists fleeing zones where ground and air troops have intensified their onslaught are invading hitherto peaceful communities, such as Marte, to abduct and maim innocent people”, an officer told PRNigeria.
