Brendan Rodgers has reacted to goal opportunities missed by Kelechi Iheanacho during Leicester City’s defeat to Arsenal in the Premier League game on Sunday.
Leicester took the lead early on at the King Power Stadium after Youri Tielemans fired the home side ahead with a clinical finish following some poor defending from Arsenal.
But goals from David Luiz, Alexandre Lacazette’s penalty and Nicolas Pepe ensured that Mikel Arteta’s men went home with all 3 points..
The Foxes tried to fight back after Ivory Nicolas Pepe made it 2-1 for the visitors seven minutes after the restart.
Following James Maddison’s injury, Iheanacho was tasked with the number 10 role and the Nigeria international had two opportunities to score.
The first was in the 35th minute when he attempted a shot on goal from 30 yards and again in stoppage time when he came close hitting the ball over from close range.
Rodgers rued the missed chance, suggesting that a goal from Iheanacho in the closing minutes would have changed the atmosphere.
“The second half was better, but we’re disappointed with the third goal. They can drop their lines then, they’re 3-1 up, and they can control the game from deeper,” Rodgers told LCFC TV.
“We still had chances. Kels (Kelechi Iheanacho) had a chance at the end, where it could have gone to 3-2 with a couple of minutes to go, you never know, but overall, we didn’t deserve to win the game.”
