Good morning! Here is today’s summary from Nigerian Newspapers:

1.The Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, yesterday announced that from today (Tuesday), customers will pay N6.98 per transaction every time they use USSD services. This was made known in a statement jointly signed by CBN’s Acting Director, Corporate Communications, Osita Nwanisobi and Director, Public Affairs, Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), Ikechukwu Adinde.

2. The Kano State government, on Tuesday, confirmed three persons dead and 284 others infected in the outbreak of a strange disease. Commissioner for Health, Aminu Ibrahim-Tsanyawa, disclosed this to reporters at a press conference.

3. The House of Representatives on Tuesday passed through second reading a bill to empower the National Assembly to summon the president. The Constitution alteration bill also seeks to give the States Houses of Assembly powers to summon their respective governors.

4. President Muhammadu Buhari, yesterday, approved the appointment of Dr Mahmoud Isa-Dutse as an Executive Director on the Board of Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) in Jedda, Saudi Arabia. The appointment was disclosed in a statement issued on Tuesday by President Buhari’s media aide, Garba Shehu.

5. The Police have arrested a lecturer in the Department of Business Management at the Covenant University Ota, Ogun State, Dr. Stephen Ukenna, for allegedly raping 17-year-old student of the institution. The 41-year-old lecturer was arrested following a complaint lodged at Ota Area command by the parents of the victim.

6. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), has given bankers till June 2021 to declare their assets in accordance with the Bank, Employees Declaration of Asset Act. Chairman of EFCC, Abdulrasheed Bawa, made this disclosure yesterday after a meeting with President Muhammed Buhari.

7. The European Union has written the World Trade Organisation (WTO) over the Central Bank of Nigeria’s ban of official foreign exchange for milk import, saying it distorts the balance of payment protocol. The WTO Director-General, Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala dropped the hint in Abuja at a meeting with the CBN Governor, Mr Godwin Emefiele on Tuesday.

8. Following the recent spike in abductions, the Kaduna State Government has ordered the closure of all public and private schools in Kajuru Local Government Area of the state. This was contained in a memo signed by Abigail Adze, Commissioner for Schools’ Quality Assurance Authority.

9. The female Students of Olabisi Onabanjo University (OOU) who were abducted in front of their hostel last week, in Yewa North Local Government Area of Ogun State, yesterday, regained their freedom from captivity.

10. The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, NCDC, has confirmed 179 new Covid-19 cases in 18 states and the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja. The development brings the total number of confirmed infections in the country to 161,074, with 2,018 deaths, while no fewer than 146,072 patients have been successfully treated and discharged.
