Chelsea defender, Kurt Zouma has suggested that the Blues suffered a shocking 5-2 defeat at home to West Brom on Saturday because they were not focused.
The Frenchman admitted that the defeat was ‘difficult to swallow,’ but urged his teammates to quickly bounce back.
The defeat on Saturday ended Thomas Tuchel’s 14-match unbeaten run in all competitions since he took over from Frank Lampard in January.
The Blues looked on course for another victory after Christian Pulisic fired them ahead in the 26th minute at Stamford Bridge.
However, Thiago Silva’s second yellow card in the 28th minute turned the game on its head with Matheus Pereira and Callum Robinson both completing braces.
Mbaye Diagne fired in the 5th for the relegation battling visitors shortly before Mason Mount’s consolation goal in the 71st minute.
Zouma, who has been criticised by pundits for contributing to Chelsea’s poor outing on the day, told Optus Sport, “I don’t know really,” when asked to explain what happened.
“There are days when it’s not your day. We conceded five today, it was very disappointing.
“There’s not much I can say, maybe a lack of focus or maybe West Brom wanted it more than us which is not possible.
“There are days like that when nothing goes your way and it’s difficult to swallow really. We have to bounce back. That’s it.”
