Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta, has given reasons for his side’s disappointing 1-1 draw with Slavia Prague at the Emirates on Thursday.
Nicolas Pepe put Arsenal in front late in the first leg of their quarter-final tie but the visitors hit back with a dramatic injury-time goal through Tomas Holes.
The result means that the Gunners will hope for a better result in the second leg with Slavia now in a more advantageous position.
Arteta’s side failed to take a number of opportunities during the game and the Gunners’ Europa League ambition is now hanging in the balance.
Arteta told reporters after the game, “It’s difficult [to beat them] because they were a good opponent. They have beaten some big teams and are really difficult to play against.
“They have a lot of man-to-man situations and you have to resolve them. When we did that, we created chances, but when you can’t, it’s not easy.
“We were effective in our high press – they had the capacity to run in transition if they won the ball back but we controlled that well. It’s more about the final result that leaves a difficult taste.”
