Governor Okezie Ikpeazu has assured that his administration will continue to celebrate excellent performance by Abians who have done well in their chosen fields.
Governor Ikpeazu stated this during the grand civic reception organized in honour of the immediate past Vice Chancellor of the Abia State University, Professor Uche Ikonne by the people of Ukwa-Ngwa, held at the Ngwa High School Aba.
Governor Ikpeazu congratulated the organizers of the event, which he said represents a Celebration of Excellence.
According to the Governor, “it is our tradition as Abians to celebrate those who performed creditably in office.” He congratulated Professor Uche Ikonne for his ability to manage the University environment excellently during his five year tenure as Vice Chancellor.
He also congratulated a former Vice Chancellor of the University, Professor Chibuzo Ogbuagu for grooming Professor Ikonne and urged Professor Uche Ikonne to continue to stand on those positive legacies that have stood him out.
Governor Ikpeazu pledged to associate himself with excellent performance by Abians in future.
In his speech, the Chairman of the occasion and former Deputy Governor of Abia State, Rt. Hon. Eric Acho Nwakanma who described Professor Uche Ikonne as a worthy Ambassador of the State, said that the Grand Civic Reception was in line with the tradition of the Ukwa-Ngwa people to appreciate hard work.
He noted that the tenure of Professor Uche Ikonne as Vice Chancellor of ABSU witnessed positive turn around as the ranking of the University moved from 93rd to 27th in the ranking of Universities across the country and 2nd best in the comity of state Universities, among other monumental achievements.
In his remarks, the Celebrant Professor Uche Ikonne said that he is overwhelmed with the show of love by his people and appreciated the organizers of the event for the honor done to him.
He commended Governor Okezie Ikpeazu for demystifying the art of governance and showing example, which challenged him and served as a tonic which set the tone for him to serve creditably.
DAILY POST reports that highlights was the conferment of the Ugo Ocha Ukwa-Ngwa Chieftaincy title on Professor Ikonne by the Traditional Rulers of Ukwa -Ngwa, and the unveiling of the book “Divine Mandate, Our Story Changed” by Professor Chibuzo Ogbuagu.
Deputy Governor of the State, Sir Ude Oko Chukwu, Traditional Rulers and other eminent indigenes of Ukwa Ngwa land were part of the event.
