1. Governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai, yesterday, said bandits deserve to die, stressing that any bandit operating in his State is most likely going to end up dead. He stated this on Sunday during an interview on Politics Today, a Channels Television programme.
2. The Kaduna State Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Mr Samuel Aruwan on Sunday, confirmed that five persons were killed, while one other person was injured by bandits in the Chikun Local Government Area of the State.
3. The Catholic Bishop of Sokoto, Bishop Matthew Kukah yesterday, described Nigeria as a killing field owing to the activities of bandits, Boko Haram insurgents and other criminal elements that have plunged the entire nation into hardship. Kukah stated this on Sunday in his Easter message.
4. Malam Garba Shehu, presidential spokesman, has accused Bishop Mathew Kukah, Catholic Archbishop of Sokoto Diocese of playing partisan politics. Garba spoke while reacting to the Bishop’s Easter message.
5. Vice President Yemi Osibanjo, yesterday, assured the people of Ebonyi State that the Federal Government will ensure diligent investigation into the killings in many parts of the state. The vice president gave the assurance when he visited the affected communities in the company of Governor David Umahi and security agencies.
6. The government of India has donated a consignment of 100,000 doses of made-in-India Covishield vaccines to Nigeria. The High Commission of India in Nigeria made this known in a statement by Vipul Mesariya.
7. The Hausa community in Imo State has called for calmness as four northerners were, yesterday, killed by unknown gunmen at Umuaka in Orlu Local Government Area of the state.
8. The Federal Government was on Sunday, called upon to create special courts to deal with cases of banditry, kidnapping, ransom demanding and unlawful carrying of weapons. The call was contained in a statement jointly signed yesterday by former president, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo and Sheik Ahmad Abubakar Gumi in Abeokuta, Ogun State.
9. Pope Francis yesterday urged countries to quicken the distribution of COVID-19 vaccines, particularly to the world’s poor. He gave the advice in his Easter message on Sunday.
10. The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, NCDC, has confirmed 82 new COVID-19 cases in 8 states. This brings the total number of recorded infections so far to 163,195.
