The Premier League’s top-four race has been blown wide open, following Arsenal’s 1-0 win at Chelsea on Wednesday night.
The Gunners’ victory at Stamford Bridge leaves the door ajar for the Blues’ closest rivals.
Mikel Arteta’s men won a game which was crucial to both sides’ quest to play European football next season, thanks to an Emile Smith Rowe’s goal, caused by a poor Jorginho back pass.
Chelsea were viewed as favourites to clinch fourth spot, especially with their impressive form since Thomas Tuchel arrived in January.
However, an Emile Smith-Rowe goal – caused by a costly error from Jorginho – handed Mikel Arteta’s Gunners all three points to deal a blow to the Blues’ top four aspirations.
West Ham, Liverpool and Leicester are vying for the last two positions for Champions League football next season, with Manchester City and Manchester United having secured the first two spots.
Liverpool travel to United on Thursday night with two outstanding games left to play. If they win both, they will be only three points behind Chelsea with two fixtures left.
Leicester remain two points ahead of Tuchel’s men having played the same number of fixtures, while West Ham are in fifth place with one outstanding game.
