The Abia State Government has said that the State governor, Dr Okezie Ikpeazu has literally killed the ”water spirit” ( Mammy Water) that had several years made it difficult for some of the roads in Abia to be fixed, especially the popular Faulks Road.

In a speech welcoming the Nigerian Guild of Editors to Abia State, the Commissioner for Information, John Okiyi Kalu, while hailing the state governor for fulfilling the promises he made to Abians almost at the 6th anniversary of his government said Abia is now one of the safest in the country and has no doubt set a record in the area of infrastructural development in the state.

Painting a picture of the deplorable state of infrastructure in Abia prior to Okpeazu’s emergence in 2015, Mr Kalu said Aba was impassable at a time due to the terrible state of its roads.

Making reference to the Faulks Road in Aba, known to had given different administrations ‘headache’ to fix, Kalu said, “Prior to the inauguration of Governor Okezie Ikpeazu in 2015, it was believed that a certain “mammy water” was responsible for the perennially dilapidated “Ukwu Mango” area of Faulks (Ariaria) Road, along with the Ama Ikonne “river”. The road was unfixable because of alleged activities of a certain “mammy water”. Today, the performing Governor, Okezie Ikpeazu has killed the ”mammy water” on the road. The road has been fixed.”

The Commissioner disclosed that by May 29, 2015, no single road entering Aba was good, stating that, ”You would not find any good stretch of road in Aba. Businesses were leaving, including local businesses like Bank of Industry of Nigeria. Today, businesses have returned to the city of Aba, commercial activities have been revived because of the work Ikpeazu has done in the city. And it’s not just Aba, there is no single ward in Abia that Ikpeazu has not touched with a project.”

Speaking on the current insecurity nationwide, Kalu said because the State Governor was proactive on the issue of security, the state is now one of the safest. He said, “When we saw what was happening, we had to take immediate action by imposing restriction on movements within certain hours. This has helped us, and today, Abia is one of the safest in the country. Our people trust their Governor, and they listen when he speaks to them. The government is working round the clock and making sure that Abia people continue to live in peace with themselves,” Kalu said.

Kalu also highlighted in his speech how Ikpeazu had delivered his five point agenda to Abia people including the Kinetic Abia project which targets industrialization, assuring that in order to further open up the state for more industrialization, the Aba-Port Harcourt Road would be fixed before the end of this administration.
