1. The Federal Government, yesterday, re-introduced a nationwide 12 am to 4 am curfew to curtail further spread of COVID-19. The National Incident Manager, Mukhtar Mohammed, disclosed this at the briefing of the Presidential Steering Committee on COVID-19 in Abuja.
2. The Presidency on Monday confirmed an attack on the residence of Ibrahim Gambari, Chief of Staff to President Muhammadu Buhari. Presidential Spokesman, Garba Shehu confirmed the attack on his verified Twitter handle.
3. The Federal Government yesterday declared Wednesday 12th and Thursday 13th May, 2021 as Public Holidays to mark 2021 Eidul-Fitr celebration. The Minister of Interior, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, disclosed this in Abuja, while congratulating Muslims on this occasion.
4. The Lagos State Police Command yesterday said that it is investigating threats by the Indigenous Peoples of Biafra (IPOB) and Yoruba separatists groups. Commissioner of Police, Hakeem Odumosu who revealed the threat yesterday, vowed that no breakdown of law and order, or attacks on soft targets would be tolerated.
5. The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Monday said its office in Ohafia LGA in Abia State was razed by suspected arsonists. Festus Okoye, the INEC spokesman, who made this known in a statement said the incident occurred in the early hours of Monday.
6. Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide yesterday, raised the alarm over the ‘shoot-on-sight’ order given to soldiers against dissenting Igbo youths, warning it was an order for another pogrom and genocide. President General of Ohanaeze, Prof. George Obiozor, in a statement, yesterday, admonished the Federal Government to refrain from the use of force in resolving the national crisis.
7. The Nigerian Army said its soldiers fighting bandits in the North West have killed 48 of them and rescued 18 persons held hostage in the first phase of its newly launched Operation Tsare Mutane, to flush out the criminals. Director, Army Public Relations, Brigadier General Mohammed Yerima, made the disclosure, in a statement yesterday.
8. Police officers believed to be operatives of the Intelligence Response Team (IRT) of the Inspector General of Police have arrested no fewer than seven newspaper vendors and distribution agents in Imo State for circulating contents about IPOB.
9: Suspected bandits invaded the Abattoir quarters on the outskirts of Jibiya Local Government Area of Katsina State, on Monday morning, and abducted about 40 worshipers during a prayer session. Katsina Police Public Relations Officer, Gambo Isah while confirming the incident, said 30 persons have been rescued.
10. The Presidential Economic Advisory Council has told President Muhammadu Buhari that despite an exiting recession in Q4 of 2020, the nation’s economy remains fragile. The council made its position known in its presentation at its sixth regular meeting with the President.
