Good morning! Here is today’s summary from Nigerian Newspapers:

1. President Muhammadu Buhari on Thursday appointed Major Gen. Farouk Yahaya as the new Chief of Army Staff (CAOS). He was appointed to replace Lt. Gen Ibrahim Attahiru who died in a NAF plane crash in Kaduna State along with 10 other senior officers and crew members last week.

2. The Minister of Finance and National Planning, Zainab Ahmed has revealed that the government has been borrowing from recovered loots to fund the budget. She spoke while appearing before the House of Representatives committee investigating recovered loots on Thursday.

3. Acting Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Usman Alkali, yesterday, announced the arrest of 10 suspects allegedly involved in the recent attack on Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom. The IGP announced the feat at a special briefing of State House Correspondents in Abuja.

4. The leadership of Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders’ Association of Nigeria (MACBAN), yesterday, appealed to governors of the 36 States and other leaders in the country to convene a meeting that would enable them to discuss the ban on open grazing. Chairman of MACBAN in the South East, Alhaji Gidado Siddiki appealed.

5. Chairman of the Northern Governors Forum and Governor of Plateau State, Simon Lalong, said the region has set up a committee on restructuring and the role of traditional rulers towards resolving the insecurity challenges in the country. He stated this at the North Central Senate Committee’s public hearing on the review of the 1999 constitution, in Jos, Plateau State.

6. The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) has warned Nigeria not to allow another crisis to compound the already precarious condition caused by the COVID-19 for children. This was contained in a statement by UNICEF country director, Peter Hawkins, to commemorate the Children’s Day celebration in Nigeria, yesterday.

7. World Igbo Congress (WIC) in collaboration with Igbo in Diaspora have said it will be celebrating the remembrance of ‘hero’s and heroines of Biafra’ on Sunday, May 30. This was contained in a statement by its spokesperson, Basil Onwukwe.

8. Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) boss, Mr Muhammad Babandede, has said the service had increased its production capacity to beat the May 31 deadline set to clear the backlog of passport applications. Babandede announced this while briefing newsmen in Anuja on Thursday.

9. The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, has said he would break protocol where necessary in order to open doors of opportunities for youths to become successful. He said this at his palace at Ile-Ife, in Osun State while unveiling the 2021 edition of the Royal Young Leadership Forum (RAYLF).

10. The Federal Government has declared additional 132 persons wanted for violating COVID-19 guidelines. The Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) and Chairman Presidential Steering Committee (PSC) on COVID-19, Boss Mustapha, disclosed this in a statement on Thursday night.
