The Police Command of the Federal Capital Territory, the Department of State Services (DSS) and hunters have rescued fourteen captives in Abuja.
The victims who were kidnapped at the Gauraka area of Niger State, were freed during a joint operation at the Byhazin-Bwari axis in Abuja.
In a statement, Mariam Yusuf, Police Public Relations Officer, said the mission led by the Command’s Anti-Kidnapping Squad combed the forest.
After a fierce gun duel, two of the kidnappers were arrested while others escaped with bullet wounds.
Exhibits recovered from their hideouts include two AK-47 magazines and cooking utensils.
The spokesperson disclosed that the victims who appeared frail after several days in captivity are receiving medical care at the Police Medical Facility.
The Commissioner of Police, Bala Ciroma reassured FCT residents of the protection of lives and property through partnership with other security agencies and stakeholders.
