The leadership of the Taraba State branch of the Nigeria Red Cross has lamented what it called the lukewarm attitudes of the state government towards the organization.

Citing other state governments, the branch Secretary, Martin A. Mania said the reverse seems to be the case in Taraba.

Manja, who made this known in a chat with media practitioners in Jalingo shortly after the various exercise rolled out by the organization to mark the World Red Cross Day, felt sad that their efforts in the state had not been recognized by the government.

He stressed the determinations of the organization not to leave any stone unturned while executing their assigned responsibilities across the nooks and crannies of the State.

Activities lined up to mark the day include training of Persons With Disabilities (PWDs), tricycle operators, commercial drivers on disaster management, as well as road walk.

Affirming that the state government has not deemed it fit to “make any commitment” to the organization, he believed it is “because they are yet to know the workings of the International organization.”

He said the organization had been working round the clock to support Cameroonian refugees in the State and would do more when “our movement partners come in.”

He added that the support presently being rendered to the refugees, which include the renovation of health facilities, supply of drugs, among others, come to the organization through the United Nations High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR).
