Chelsea boss, Thomas Tuchel has revealed that Christian Pulisic got a bad message from him (Tuchel) after the American was dropped on the bench for the victory over Real Madrid.
The German tactician was explaining why he picked Kai Havertz over Pulisic in the second leg semi-final clash at Stamford Bridge.
He suggested that Havertz’s height was a factor in picking the German over Pulisic in his starting XI.
Pulisic started and scored Chelsea’s only goal in the first leg in Spain last week but was named among the subs for Wednesday’s clash at Stamford Bridge.
Tuchel explained his decision to drop the USA international, suggesting Havertz’s greater aerial presence at set-pieces was a key factor.
“Christian got a bad message today, unfortunately, but I am pretty sure we need more than 11 players to sneak through today and it is good to have Christian from the bench,” Tuchel told BT Sport.
“Kai gives us a little bit of height against the set-pieces and maybe in fast attacks can keep the ball.”
