1. President Muhammadu Buhari would depart the country today for London, the United Kingdom (UK), for a scheduled medical follow-up. In a brief statement issued by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mr. Femi Adesina, the President is expected back in the country in the second week of next month.
2. A 21-year-old University of Lagos undergraduate arrested over the murder of SuperTV boss, Michael Usifo Ataga, 49, on Thursday said she stabbed him to death following disagreement on another sex round. In an interview with reporters, Ojukwu said she was introduced to Ataga four months ago by her friend, adding that they used to meet at his residence in Victoria Garden City (VGC).
3. A middle aged man, Ugochukwu Unadumene has been sentenced to life imprisonment for raping a youth corps member in 2018. The man was sentenced by Hon. Justice Abdullahi Mika’ilu, of the High Court 3 Minna, the Niger State capital.
4. Gunmen broke into Hilltop Hotel at Tunga Maje in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) in the wee hours of Thursday and abducted some guests. Police spokesperson in the FCT, ASP Mariam Yusuf, confirmed the incident but did not go into details.
5. President Muhammadu Buhari has allocated houses to the Super Eagles Squad that won the African Cup of Nations in Tunis, Tunisia, in 1994. Garba Shehu, Presidential spokesman, who disclosed this in a statement, said it is in fulfillment of a promise made by the Federal Government.
6. Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Lucky Irabor, yesterday, debunked an allegation by Islamic cleric, Sheik Ahmad Gumi, that soldiers were colluding with bandits, saying those harbouring such thoughts were hallucinating and needed their heads examined. He stated this at an interaction with retired senior military officers in the South West at the Headquarters of 2 Division of the Nigerian Army, Odogbo, Ibadan.
7. The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has said it was afraid of possible attacks in registration centres during the forthcoming Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise. INEC Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, who expressed the concern, yesterday, said the exercise had to first commence through online portals until security improves.
8. The Public Account committee of the House of Representatives has summoned the Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi over unremitted funds of the Nigerian Ports Authority. He is to appear before the Committee on 8th of July.
9. Vice President Yemi Osinbajo says the recent supplementary budget sent to the National Assembly will help the federal government end insecurity in Nigeria. Osinbajo spoke when he received the Oluyin of Iyin Ekiti, Oba Adeola Adeniyi Ajakaiye at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
10. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Sokoto Zonal Office, yesterday, arrested three suspects over alleged N3.5 billion online investment fraud. Mr. Bawa Kaltungo, EFCC Head in Sokoto State, made the disclosure while addressing newsmen on Thursday in Sokoto.
