1. All members of the 9th National Assembly, comprising 109 senators and 360 members of the House of Representatives last night met with President Muhammadu Buhari at the Aso Villa in Abuja.
Buhari, during the meeting, expressed the readiness of his administration to use everything within its powers to end insecurity in the country and bring perpetrators of criminal activities to book.
2. The Senate has passed a bill seeking to establish the Electoral Offences Commission, including 20 years jail term for ballot box snatching. This followed the consideration of a report by the Committee on Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), chaired by Senator Kabiru Gaya (APC, Kano).
3. The National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA) has said Nigeria will receive 41,282,770 doses of Oxford/Astrazeneca, Pfizer-Bio-N Tech, and Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccines between July and September. The Executive Director of the agency, Faisal Shuaib made this known yesterday.
4. Governor Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna State says he is deeply worried by the hardship occasioned by insecurity in the state. In his remarks during the presentation of the Kaduna State Security Incidents Report for the Second Quarter of 2021, the governor said the security report presented had sobering statistics on the state of security in the state.
5. Air strikes from fighter jets targeting bandits have claimed the lives of a woman and her four children at Sububu, in Zamfara State. NAF spokesperson, Air Commodore Edward Gabkwet, confirmed the multiple airstrikes on the area.
6. The family of a woman, Ugieki Asemota, has urged the Edo State Police Command to prosecute her husband, Emmanuel, for allegedly beating her to death for refusing him sexual intercourse. The state Police Public Relations Officer, Kontongs Bello, confirmed the incident.
7. A businessman, identified only as Felix, aka Tiger, and two other yet-to-be-identified traders were shot dead yesterday by military officers during a clash with union members and traders at the Aguiyi Ironsi International Trade Centre, in the Paramo area of Ladipo Market, Lagos State.
8. President Muhammadu Buhari on Tuesday praised the resilience of Nigeria to remain a united entity. He spoke at State House, Abuja, while receiving the report of the National Security Summit held on May 26, by the House of Representatives. The report was submitted by a team of House members, led by the Speaker, Femi Gbajabiamila.
9. The Kaduna State government on Tuesday presented a security report showing that 222 persons were killed due to banditry and other violent crimes in three months. The report also shows that 774 others were kidnapped in the last three months. The report was presented to Governor Nasir El-Rufai and other top government officials by Commissioner of Internal Security and Home Affairs Samuel Aruwan.
10. Nigerian Senate, on Tuesday declined Lauretta Onochie’s nomination as a National Commissioner of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). Onochie’s non-confirmation followed the report by the Senate Committee on (INEC), Senator Kabir Gaya who said her nomination breaches Federal Character principles.
