The Zamfara State Executive Governor, Hon. Bello Mohammed Matawalle has said that his administration will utilise the three digital emergency call centres provided by the Federal Ministry of Communications and Digital Economy to fight banditry in the state.

The Governor made this known on Thursday when he visited the Honourable Minister of Communications and Digital Economy at his office in Abuja, the country’s capital.

In a press statement signed by the Director-General, Press Affairs, Government House, Comrade Yusuf Idris Gusau, the Governor said his administration was determined to utilise the digital emergency call centres to the maximum and ensure that the purposes to which they were established are achieved.

The Governor further explained that technology plays a very vital role in securing societies globally and for this, his government has resolved to utilise all the centres constructed in the state in order to bring an end to banditry activities and other criminalities in the state.

He added that “with proper utilization of the new system, the country will return to its old glory of peaceful coexistence whereby every citizen will live peacefully with one another irrespective of tribe or region,” he added.

Matawalle also appreciated the minister’s digital support in the ongoing fight against banditry, kidnapping and cattle rustling.

He, therefore, said that the centres will, in addition, create job opportunities for the teeming ICT applicants and design compliant youths throughout the state.

Responding, the Ministers of Communications and Digital Economy, Honourable Ali Isa Pantami explained that all the centres provided in Zamfara State are specially for security and employment purposes, saying that they will go into full operations very soon.

He commended the proactive posture of Governor Matawalle in tackling insecurity and the state government’s development drive of moving Zamfara State forward.

The minister also informed the Governor that the request he made last year when he paid a similar visit has been included and approved in the 2021 budget.

During the visit, the governor was accompanied by Honourable Aminu Sani Jaji and the Principal Private Secretary to the Governor, Lawal Umar Maradun among others.
