BT Sport pundits, Eni Aluko, Rio Ferdinand, Joe Cole and Glenn Hoddle have given verdicts on Romelu Lukaku’s imminent move to Chelsea.

Lukaku, a former Chelsea player, arrived in London on Wednesday ahead of his transfer to the Champions League winners.

The 28-year-old is set to complete a £97.5million to Chelsea move from Inter Milan.

The Belgium international was signed by Chelsea in 2011 from Anderlecht, but he made just a handful of appearances.

Reacting, Aluko, Ferdinand, Cole and Hoddle have now issued their verdicts on Lukaku moving back to Chelsea on BT Sport.

Aluko said: “I am so excited about this signing. I actually think it is the missing piece for Chelsea.

“Chelsea upfront, Werner did not do enough last season, if Lukaku comes in, he is one of the best goal scorers in the world. 64 goals in under 100 games, a big part of Inter Milan winning the league last season.

“A lot of times in the Euros, he goes out wide, he can play with a false nine as well, his assists have gone up as well for Inter Milan, so he is an involved player, he is not just a hold-up player.

“He can play in a Tuchel team that is very fluid up front. I’m so excited about this signing.”

On his part, Ferdinand said: “One thing for certain is that he’ll be the focal point now for this Chelsea attack.

“They have some fantastic talent up there, an array of talent, they’ve so many weapons now and I think he will be the mainstay.

“Everybody else will be moved about around him, but he will be the person they look to.

“I’m really interested to see how Werner and Havertz feed off him, Mount, giving him the ball, Pulisic and Ziyech. It is going to be mouthwatering. I would love to watch training.”

Speaking also, Cole said: “Rio [Ferdinand], when you saw him at Manchester United and then the Euros, what did you see differently? What are the improvements he has made to his game?”

Ferdinand replied to Cole: “I always wanted him to bully people just because of his size, but that is not really his game.

“He is almost like a fox in the box, a six foot three cruiserweight fox in the box.

“Once the ball gets into those tight areas, he has become even better now at getting himself that yard, then touch and bang.

“No messing about. People question his touch, you can do that outside the box, he can maybe clean that up a bit, but when the ball goes to him in the box, his touch is as good as most.”

Hoddle then concluded: “I think it is just exactly what Tuchel wants and what the team wants.

“I always felt they lacked a little bit of a focal point and that’s what Lukaku will do.

“He’s 28 now, he’s hitting his peak, they have got him at his peak, he’s got a fabulous goal-scoring record anyway.

“I think that threat and focal point will help the likes of Werner and Havertz to play off him.”
