The newly appointed Chairman of the Zamfara State Hospital Management Board, Dr. Bashir Maru, lamented that during one of his tours to one of the general hospitals in the state, an environmental specialist was treating patients.
“We saw someone who is an environmental specialist in charge of a male ward treating patients who had been on admission in the hospital.”
Maru lamented that the environmentalists work on night duty sometimes, raising suspicion that they could be having amorous affairs with patients.
He added that another general hospital did not have its Principal Medical Officer or Chief Nursing Officer on seat by 10am when he left.
“Zamfara State has a problem in the health sector because people are not taking the professional jobs very seriously.
“How can environmental specialists be attending medically to patients who have head challenges in the hospitals. Are they medically qualified to handle sensitive issues like health?
“Apart from human resource deficit, one cannot even talk of infrastructural decay because the majority of the General hospitals in Zamfara state do not perform as if there are no health facilities where health care management is provided,” he lamented.
