As floods continue to wreak havoc in parts of the state, the Bauchi State government on Wednesday evening constituted three committees to assess the level of damages caused by flood in the State.
Inaugurating the committees at the Government House, Bauchi, the state deputy governor, Senator Baba Tela, charged members to use their knowledge and experience to discharge the assignment before them.
The committees, according to Tela, were saddled with the responsibility of inspecting all the affected areas in order to determine the extent of damage with a view to assisting victims.
He added that the committees are to seek the intervention of the Federal Government as well as national, international, and multilateral donor agencies and to suggest to the state government steps to be taken, including sensitization programme, to avert future occurrences.
He informed that the committees were being inaugurated at the instance of Governor Bala Mohammed, adding that the plights of victims as well as the level of flood disaster in the state were of great concern to the governor.
“His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Bauchi State, Senator Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed, who is worried about the level of flood disaster in the state directed the inauguration of these committees.
“I want to appreciate His Excellency, the Governor for his concern towards the plight of the victims and we thank all our stakeholders for their support to the state government in controlling flood,” the deputy governor said.
The inauguration of the committees, according to Tela, who chairs the main committee, would enable the state government to assist flood victims to ameliorate their sufferings.
