3. Governor Andrew Cuomo of New York has resigned following indictment on sexual harassment. He announced his decision to step down after a report from the state’s attorney general documented multiple accusations of sexual harassment against women.
4. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), on Tuesday, quizzed a former governor of Bayelsa State, Seriake Dickson over alleged misappropriation of funds meant for his State. Spokesman of the commission, Wilson Uwujaren, confirmed that Dickson was at the commission but he did not go into details.
5. The Director, Amnesty International Nigeria, Osai Ojigho yesterday, said at least 112 people were killed, 160 abducted and thousands displaced in communities in Kaduna and Plateau States from July to August 5, 2021. The human rights group blamed the development on the Nigerian authorities’ failure to live up to their obligation to protect the right to life.
6. The West Africa Examination Council has announced August 16, 2021, for the commencement of the 2021 West African Senior School Certificate Examination. The Head of the Nigeria office, Mr. Patrick Areghan, made the announcement in Lagos on Tuesday.
7. The President of the Ijaw National Congress (INC), Professor Benjamin Okaba yesterday, declared that the refusal of President Muhammadu Buhari to meet the demands tabled before him by Ijaw leaders during their last meeting in Abuja may lead to the declaration of a Republic by the Ijaw Nation. Okaba stated this in Yenagoa during a reception and award of excellence organised by the people of Akassa, Nembe and Ogbia communities.
8. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arraigned a suspected internet fraudster, Samuel Akunomah. Justice A. T. Mohammed of the Federal High Court in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, is presiding over the case.
9. The air and ground components of Operation Gama Aiki (OPGA) of the Nigerian military have eliminated several bandits in Niger. The two-day offensive on the criminals’ hideouts led to the death of scores of them.
10. Sokoto State Commissioner for Health, Ali Inname, on Tuesday, confirmed the deaths of 24 family members after eating some poisonous food. The commissioner said in a statement that the incident occurred on Monday in Danzanke village of Bargaja ward of Isa Local Government Area of Sokoto State.
